Shaving soap - milled or glycerine??

What are some example brands of milled soaps, and how do they compare to glycerine based soap in terms of cushion, slickness and protection?

In my experience, glycerin soaps don't compare in any category. However, others will disagree. See Jim's sticky regarding tallow-based triple-milled soaps. It's as good as information regarding the topic as you will find anywhere.

Glycerine soaps are cold poured and get used up pretty quickly. They also don't provide as much slickness or cushion. Tripple Milled soaps provide more slickness, cushion and tend to last 4-5 times as long.

Others might disagree with you but I wholeheartedly agree. Glycerin soaps are okay judged on their own merits but don't do well when compared with triple-milled tallow soaps.

I agree that milled trumps glycerin in almost every respect....save one. Our glycerin soap purveyors are wildly inventive with scents, and are very responsive to users (see Mama Bear Sue's reintroduction of Dragon's Tears) compared to the big milled soap makers (see Penhaligon's turning a deaf ear to our begging them to keep tallow in the EF and BB).
