Shaving Gear for Carry on Luggage?

This will be my first air travel in CONUS since DE shaving. Don't want anything confiscated. I'm sure many of you are seasoned travelers. What are the do's and don'ts with respect to razors, blades, etc.. I know it may sound stupid, but i hate to fly and rarely do, but I have to go with my kid on a quick 2 day trip from Florida to Albany NY for her swearing in to the NY Bar. Thanks.

I carry what I need in my dopp, in my carry on. Razor, as well as blades. Never had a problem in travelling in Canada. Not sure if either are permitted really, but have got away with it so far. Maybe put them in your checked in luggage to avoid hastle.

I got moves like Jagger
Check everything for shaving. Even an unloaded razor can look like a weapon (i.e. might have a blade).
Better safe than sorry confiscated

Here in the US going back and forth from Ca to Ny the blades will be confiscated and thrown into the trash. Just grab a disposable for travel.

What you can do is take everything you need except the blades. You may 1) either mail blades ahead of time to your location or 2) Stop by any brand name pharmacy and buy their generic double edge blades. They're usually not great but they'll do in a pinch. They might confiscate your entire injector so it's not worth the risk.

I fly almost every week, and I almost never check a bag, so it's a Mach 3 for my travel kit. I have an AOS travel kit (travel badger brush, travel sized oil, cream, and after shave)that works well for TSA and my own carry-on bag's size limitations. I just started using a straight razor, and I'm sure that won't pass TSA, so I leave my straight razor shaves for days that I'm at the home office and weekends. It's not optimal, but at least it's not a Mach 3 shave with crappy shaving cream/gel while I'm on the road.

Nothing to add with respect to your question, but congrats on your daughter's accomplishment!

While there are some people who will joke and/or complain about lawyers, in my experience the jokes/complaints vanish when the joker/complainer has been cheated, injured, or unfairly accused and cannot get redress alone. Although it can be frustrating at times, the satisfaction of helping seek justice for someone wronged can be very rewarding. Best of luck...

I just flew in and out of the U.S. (Seattle) last week with carry on only.
I took a single blade disposable (Bic Sensitive), an Omega boar, LaToja soap stick, Bay Rum in a small clear plastic jar. (keep any soaps, liquids under 100ml)
Pack all my stuff in a clear ziplock bag for security screening and keep it at the top of my carry on for quick access.
I also thought about taking an injector, but the risk of losing it or being delayed in that security line up is just not worth trying.
Congrats to your daughter!!

Thanks for all your advice. I also appreciate your kind words about my daughters accomplishment. Now I need to get a cartridge or disposable razor. Looks like I will take my Arko shave stick, brush and the razor. I think all my AS is too big for travel, so i will pick one and decant into a small spray bottle.

The TSA does not allow DE blades, or injector blades in carry on luggage. You are only going to be gone for a two days. Don't take the risk of having stuff seized. Surely you can suffer for two days with a disposable, or cart?

I can suffer the two days with a disposable. If I fly for a longer trip I will check my baggage and carry my full kit. I do want to have a nice shave when I attend my daughter's swearing in ceremony.

I travel quite a bit and the most hassle I get is when a TSA agent rarely wants to double check the razor for a blade. I always carry a DE with me. In the case I do not check bags, quite a few Bed, Bath and Beyonds carry Wilkinsons, which seem to be an acceptable alternative. I have shaved with a cartridge recently and still can't stand it. For me, it's either buy some OK blades at the destination or not shave for the day or 2 I'm there.

From an older blog, but TSA is not a machine that changes its mind quickly...

Now that being said, I have flown 4-5 times in the past year almost always with a schick injector with a blade in it and never had a problem. I'm not saying it's recommended, but I made peace with the fact I could lose it at any point. ($5 antique shop bakelite)

I carry my stuff in my carry on. Everything except blades. I mail them ahead to my hotel. They are waiting for me when I check in.

Good luck and congratulations to your daughter!

Here's my experience with cross border air travel. Going to New York City (LGA) from Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ), I had to pull out my clear bag of goodies to show the disassembled Edwin Jagger DE89 razor (sans blade, mailed that to my brother two weeks earlier). On on the return trip, the TSA officers did not bat an eye when my bag went through the x-ray machine at La Guardia, go figure.

This time out I'm getting a Merkur baklite razor and just stop by Pasteurs once I get back to NYC and grab a pack of Astras, I hate shaving with cartridges.

I've always carried a Tech when traveling. After reading your post, I'm going to switch to my Bakelite slant from IB. Thanks!
