Shaving cream residue

Why is it that shaving cream (Pamolive) leaves a residue on the razor and a shaving soap doesn't? I don't mind cleaning the razor, I just don't want to everyday.

I suspect it because there is more oil residue that is not saponified. But I'm no expert. I do share in your observation though.

I have noticed that sometimes I get a residue and other times I don't, but I've never traced it back to creams v. soaps. I'll have to check that out.

I experienced a residue the other day from Trumper's Rose soap, so maybe it's not a soap/cream issue but an issue of water?

It could be the hard water, however my AOS soap doesn't leave as thick of a residue as the Palmolive cream. I will have to see if the water temp makes a difference.

Interesting. My Prorasso cream leaves a residue everytime I use it. I used VDH today for the first time and imediatly noteced that my razor was clean!

If you want to see residue on your razor and the shaving mug, try Musgo Real cream! It's the lanolin. Tallow soaps did the same to me.

If you want something that leaves your razor squeaky clean, try LDC. That stuff is weird, I rinse my razor in a mug with warm water every 3-4 strokes and all the whiskers just drop to the bottom of the mug when I use LDC!

I almost never get gunk on my razor, but I wash my brush in a mug after I rinse it and certain products leave a lot of residue on it that I can see floating around. It isn't directly associated with anything in particular that I know of. My EJ soap has no lanolin, and it obviously isn't a cream since it's a soap, but it leave quite a bit of soap scum on my stuff. I'm just going to chalk it up to "soaps (and creams) leave soap-scum"
