Have you tried the lanolin-filled goodness that is Musgo Real? If so, what'd you think? How was the lather, the shave, the scent? Got a preferred brush or lathering technique that coincides with Musgo Real. A favorite AS to use afterward?

If not, consider this your invitation to try a "must-have" shave cream! What are you waiting for?

Oh, and best Musgo Real cream scent description in this thread wins!*

Can I nominate TorzJohnson for honorable mention?

For his epic descriptions of Musgo Real AS. Seriously, do a search

I keep coming back to Musgo, maybe because it shows up in the SOTD so much or maybe because it's just so effective.

It seems to be fairly unique in the world of creams.

and one that just might make my top 5.

Before today I'd only had the after shave. However I did just receive the Musgo cream tube, so I'll be playing along a bit this month.

(however my long rotation commands me, so it's also Mama Bear May, Tabac May, SCS May, Salter May, Cade May, Harris, etc..etc..)

The first few times I used Musgo I didn't care for the texture or the look of the cream, but the performance was great.

Sadly, I'm down to less than 1/3 of a tube so my participation in Musgo May will end when I run out.

I've used the Musgo since the start of May. :thumbup1:

This thread has me interested. Any suggestions on a good place to order some?

Given your location, westcoastshaving seems like a great option -- you'd no doubt get it lightning fast! There are lots of other good vendors who stock Musgo, as well. :thumbup1:

Thanks I didn't even think of it. They are my go to vendor and I think I will pick some up

I bought a tube of Musgo Real Shaving Cream a few weeks back. Though I'm definitely a fan of the scent, it wasn't until today that the cream really won me over. I live in Somerville, MA, and this morning I went out to Leavitt & Pierce in Cambridge, and got myself the Musgo Aftershave Splash.

When I shaved, I decided to face lather with the Musgo, rather than lathering in a bowl. I got a my best shave yet with the product (though I feel like it's not quite as slick as some other shaving soaps/creams I've used), and I followed up with the splash - phenomenal. It was actually the first time I've ever used a splash, since I tend to have very dry skin which favors balms. The splash tightened up my skin, but didn't actually dry it out very much, which was a welcome surprise.

I'd like to know more about the pre-shave oil. The only pre-shave I've ever used was the AOS Sandalwood, which was useless (if not detrimental to my shaving experience).

Musgo cream and aftershave splash every day since Monday. I'm loving it.
All systems GO for the rest of the month.

The performance of the cream is top notch, and I really enjoy the scent of both products.
Lanolin in the cream, and aloe and witch hazel in the splash leaves my face feeling great after my EJ DE86 and Feather shave.

Musgo is to blame for getting me into real shaving in the first place.

Shopping at Parkleigh in Rochester, NY, I had always sought better shaving creams to use with whatever marketing-invented cartridge *** I had received free in the mailbox most recently (why would I know any differently?).

First there was Kiehl's. Then Jack Black. Both infinitely better than the gel goo out of the high tech cans from the grocery store.

They I saw the Musgo, shrugged, and put it in the basket along with the danish breakfast coffee (my wife's and my favorite, but I digress...).

The result was so good I googled it, found shaveblog.com, and the rest is, well, you know how that goes.

The shaving cream scent brings me to an earthy corner barbershop with cigarette butts strewn outside the entrance, where Bruno Sammartino, Steve Carlton and Corvettes were discussed with varying levels of enthusiasm. Combs were fetched from cyliders of barbicide and the strop made a rhythmic slap-click-click-slap music. It's also mowing the lawn on a Saturday with dad and kid sized golf clubs and the smell of my old Rawlings Heart-of-the-hide baseball glove. Why do I get these images? Maybe a neuroscientist can answer that, but all I know is I feel connected with a part of the past that was better than many things are now.

For me it was kind of the opposite. By the time I gave Musgo a chance I'd already been deep into D.R. Harris, Trumpers, Truefitt & Hill, ToBS, Penhaligon's etc. etc. What Musgo did teach me is you don't always have to spend big dollars to get a great shave! :thumbup1:

I had the same realization after trying Musgo. Now I am on the look out for other great vintage creams and soaps.

Quick question. Has anyone ever gotten the shaving cream in your mouth while lathering? I did this morning and it numbed my tongue and I was still feeling it for a while after the shave. Anyone else had this happen?

Musgo Real (and all other Musgo products) are very fine products from Ach Brito. I like it alot and being from my country makes it even better :blushing: But in my opinion, "O Melhor" from Confiança it's much superior, but the problem is that no one knows it.

Yeth.

Musgo is a terrific cream. It was my first and remains one of my favourites. The scent is not too strong nor too weak and very inoffensive. My only complaint is it tends to make my brush clump together. I have to soak the brush in mild detergent every few shaves to combat this.
