Shaving by Theme

Well, I just decided to put some different creams together by country.

Tet a Tet -Russia

Geo Trumpers Rose- UK

Spieck- Germany

Al's the Bomb Calypso- USA

A veritable UN of shave creams.

It came out pretty good.

I guess you could call this theme shaving.

any other ideas for shaving by theme?

Outside of the obvious matching of scents, I occasionally like to shave with all my least expensive products and reminisce about my initial thoughts of saving money by DE wetshaving. :)

For the last two years, a bunch of us have followed the theme of "Shave American" on the 4th of July, using only domestic products.

For other days of the year, I like to keep my brands together, so I'll make it an all Tabac shave, including the soap and cream, bath soap, EdT, deo-stick, ASL and/or ASB. or an all Musgo Real shave, or an all Burt's Bees shave ... I just wish I had more brands where I have the complete range.

At a bare minimum, I like to group products by country of origin. So I can mix Tabac and Spieck; or Musgo Real and Lavanda and 444; or MWF and T&H; etc.

For New Year's Day, I'm thinking about a theme where as much as possible is NEW to Me ... stuff I've never tried before. I have enough products that I've bought and never opened that this should be easy.

You left out some of the best creams:

  • From Italy: Proraso, Accas Kappa 1869, Cella, Cremo, Omega, Valobra, Santa Maria Novella
  • From India: Any of the Godrej creams, Detol, Palmolive, Old Spice
  • From Argentina: Gillette
  • From France: Williams
  • From Bulgaria: Karo, Rose
  • From Turkey?: Arko
  • From Israel: Mem
  • From Lebanon: Gillette Lemon-Lime, Gada

Plus, many more!

I believe he was referring to organizing what he already owns by theme. But if we were to start a products by country of origin thread, I'm in.

A new thread would probably disappear quickly. What about creating a Wiki index page with links per item type/country?

E.g.

Creams

Portugal
Italy
UK
...

Razors

Germany
Japan
India
...

I will often use a fragrance theme for my shave such as today's which was an all Tabac shave theme. Sandalwood, spice and Bay Rum are others that I use as a theme. I also have a number of pewter shaving items like mugs, brushes and razor handles that I will use as a theme from time to time. I like to match soaps/creams with similar or complementing scents. I would think that this is a common practice that many of us use.

Regards,

Doug

Cool. I don't know how to do that.

I theme my shaves based on seasons rather than country of origin.

Summer is Proraso cream/splash with Musgo No.2 oak moss to follow.

Winter is either Old Spice cream or a Lavender cream with Nivea ASB and Davidoff Adventure.

For my shaves, "theme" is a method for fitting my gear-of-the-day to my mood or the day's activity. Regular working day might call for my workhorse 38C, Proraso cream and an inoffensive office cologne. A special event to attend? My custom 34G with burlwood handle, Opus 1870 cream and high-end cologne. Want clean and fresh? Shiny Aristocrat with Santa Maria Novella cream followed by Irisch Moos AS and EDT. Old school? Tech or Superspeed razor filled with a Shark blade from that cool box, Tabac soap and either Tabac or Old Spice. The possibilities are endless when ADs have overfilled the den.
