Shaving after hot tub?

Hey all,

The other day I was thinking that shaving after soaking in the hot tub for a while would be better for softening up the beard before a shave than just a shower would. Do you agree or do you think the chemicals in the water would have too much of a negative effect?

Having shaved several times right after a long swim in the pool,I personally found that the chlorine made my skin a bit too dry to get a fully enjoyable shave, but that the long exposure to water made the hair easier to cut,if that makes any sense.
Personally I wouldn't shave after a hot tub,but that's just my opinion.

Ive shaved after a bath (well, during the bath really) - and it was excellent. But that was just because of all the hot water and steam - one way to find out if a hot tub is any different.

(My bath is a sit-in scuttle!)

There needs to be a group made for this - Bath Shavers United

Well, if you want heat and steam minus chlorine, sauna anyone?
To me that would be the ultimate pre-shave setup: Soften up the beard and loose a few inches in the waist

+1, but for me it depends on how close a cut you are looking for...

A long soak tends to pull the oils out of my skin and leaves me feeling a little dry. I don't know if that would be ideal for a shave.

A few minutes in a steam room, however, would be perfect.

I say don't worry about the chlorine if you lather properly with a soap containing glycerine or other moisturizers before you actually shave. You will have nice soft whiskers after a good soak in steamy hot water, which will improve your shave greatly. Don't let your face dry before lathering, and don't try to shave in the tub without lathering. Go for it and tell us how you make out.

I shave in the bath somtimes but only at the end of my soak and finish off with a cold shower apprently it's good for the circulation I don't stay under for long though because its chuffing cold!!!

The Sauna (say it with me, kids- "Sow" like a female pig, and "nah"- not sah-nah!) is a big part of the culture where I grew up. Folks all over up there have them built into their house or camp (cottage, to most of you); it's fairly commonplace. Having shaved in one myself, I can tell you that sauna shaves are phenomenal!! My experiences with it were 8-10 years ago, using a mach 3 and canned goop. I can only imagine how great it would be with DE and a good soap.

Well I gave it a shot. I made the mistake of letting my mug sit in there with me so that it would be nice and warm and I guess the chlorine messed with my lather because I just couldn't get a nice one made.

Other than that it felt pretty good. I'm intrigued both by the suggestion of shaving in the bathtub and in the sauna. I wonder if my gym would be cool with that?

I probably won't be doing it again though since I could definitely feel the effects of the chlorine. My pursuit of the perfect shave goes on...
