What's new

Shaved with my NOS vintage Slant.....WOW!

So yeah, I got one a few days ago and after cleaning off some minor corrosion and giving it an alcohol bath, I loaded it up with a 7 O'Clock Permasharp and just finished shaving with it.

Wow. Just....wow. The thing mowed down 4 days' beard growth (I let it grow especially for this) like it was nothing. Butter smooth. And what's with the fear factor of this razor, anyway? I could feel the blade was at a different angle than I'm used to, but I got no cuts, nicks, weepers, etc. It even tolerated slight pressure on the jaw and chin.

I must say that for my first experience with a Slant, I really like it. I wouldn't use it daily, mind you, but it's a wonderful tool. I was worried for nothing -- it definitely does not deserve its scary reputation. Actually, I'd say the Muhle R89 old type would be more prone to bite than a Slant.

I know it's NOS and basically pristine, but I can't let a fine razor such as this sit on display now that I know it gives a wonderful shave!

I actually have an open comb British NEW that I cleaned today as well. I'll try it out in a few days when I shave again..

Kevan, I'm with you on this one. I received mine early last week and only just this week got around to trying it, and WOW! This has to be the smoothest, easiest, closest shave I have ever gotten with absolutely no effort whatsoever. I was not even trying, (well, I was, but it was not to mangle my face with that scary looking contraption) I was not expecting anything shave-wise and was completely floored.

I have a fairly heavy beard, and it's only saving grace is that it is gray, and therefore the 5 o'clock shadow is more a change in slickness to the face rather than an actual "shadow" A slant has been on my radar for quite some time now, and when the chance came along on the BST for those NOS slants, I decided to bite the bullet, and give it a try. WOW, is all I can say. No pressure, no burn, no real effort, very few touch ups required. With my HD barberpole to get a true BBS shave required five passes and a couple of touch ups, and a very good DFS (the normal, rushing to work shave) required three and a half passes and a couple of touch ups. This darn thing (NOS slant) was only three half hearted passes (again, on the first shave, I was a bit intimidated by the looks of the blade) and I had to search out areas that might need a touch up. Now, I simply take my time, and whammo, BBS in three passes, and I couldn't be happier. (well, a few spare pucks of EF would be nice, but that is a different matter altogether) It has become my primary razor, and will continue to be for the foreseeable future.

YMMV

Bob
