3 months ago I tried to pick up ice skating and managed to break my ankle on the very first try!
Had surgery, two screws kept my ankle in place while the ligaments were healing properly.
I remember that they used a rather unimpressive electric shaver prior to the operation...
Procedure was fine, but the shave was lousy.
Since then I moved from California to the Czech Republic where today I had the screws removed.
Same basic procedure, well actually much simpler (5 minutes) and it was a very relaxing day all and all (and anesthesia).
There was one oddity, on the "what to do the day before the operation" paper, I was asked to shave the area "20 cm around". I asked my doctor if it was a type and she said that while they can shave the area at the hospital, doing it at home is usually better, and thinking of that rickety electrical shaver ... yeah that made sense.
Instead of borrowing the Schick Injector kit I had set up for the missus, I decided to stick with what I am used to - my trusty Gem Jr Lather Catcher with a blade on it's last run. I whipped up some Nivea cream and I was surprised what a smooth effortless shave it was. Granted leg hair is much finer than facial hair, but even though I made a dozen passes on the same spot (for no real reason, it was clean after the first), I got zero irritation. So I got a BBS on the first 20 cm past my ankle... and my wife did comment that my leg looked like our son's (14 month old) leg...
