Sharing Amazing ribs!

I BBQ'd pork ribs last night and they turned out so good that I had to share the recipe.

Ingredients

* 2 pork rib racks
* 1/2 cup honey
* 4 lemons, juice and zest of
* 1 tablespoon fresh ginger
* 1 tablespoon fresh garlic
* 1 tablespoon soy sauce
* 1/4 cup unsalted butter
* 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (I used 1/2 a tsp)
* 1/2 teaspoon salt
* 1/2 teaspoon pepper

Directions
1.In a small pot combine all the basting ingredients together and simmer until butter is melted.
2.Remove from heat and reserve.
3.BBQ ribs at 200-225 F for 3 hours basting every 20 minutes until done.

I didn't follow step 3. I boiled the ribs for 30 mins and then put them on a medium bbq for about 25 mins flipping and basting with the glaze every 5 mins.

Sounds great! It's been too long since I've cooked ribs. I wonder what it is about this site that attracts so many great rib chefs?!

I'm just learning how to use the BBQ. This was purely experimental and it turned out. As for a rib chef....I'm in no way one, but I love to experiment and try new recipes. The question should be, why do men love ribs so much?

Tasty meat + tasty fat = :drool:

:lol: I guess it's just because of something primal about gnawing meat off a bone that is sparked by Y chromosomes.....same with cooking outdoors. Men that can't find their way around a kitchen at all love cooking outside on grills & smokers....the fire adds a small element of danger, thus making the activity "manly". :wink:

BTW, next time, just give the ribs about another hour or so on the smoker instead of boiling them. Boiling ribs is bbq blasphemy! :wink:

Mrs. Chip, isn't learning the BBQ fun and exciting? I've got 3 different BBQs/Grills for different purposes. I suggest that you try a batch o' ribs without boiling them first; boiling removes a lot of flavor from the meat and actually makes them dryer because much of the fat was rendered out before it went in the BBQ.

Everyone has their opinion, but here's my method: Remove the membrane from the underside of the ribs by poking a knife through it about 2" from one end and sliding the blade between it and the meat/bones. When you get a piece free that's big enough to grab onto (paper towels help grip) peel it off. Then sprinkle your seasonings on the ribs (just the top side is good enough). Let them sit for at least 4 hours, overnight's better. 220 degrees for about 4 hours and they should be lip smackin' tender. Racks or 1/2 racks can be stacked in the BBQ so that the juices drip from the top through the racks underneath. Just rotate them every 1/2 hour and don't stack the last 1/2 hour.

I'm so saving this thread. The ingredient list alone is making my mouth water. :drool:

Experimenting with food is fun isn't it? Sometimes you get results that aren't all that great, but more often then not I find you usually get pretty darn good results if you sort of have an idea what you're doing. :biggrin:

What he said. :drool:

Nice recipe! I don't boil my ribs, either. I like to let them sit overnight in the fridge, and when they're done, BAM! They soak up a lot of flavor. As for why we like ribs so much, well, everything all the guys have said. It all ties together.

I'm all about fast and tasty. I am honestly not patient enough to cook somehting for hours that need attention. I also look for recipes that seem simple and don't have a huge list of ingredents or simple steps. One day I will probably try the long cook.

Most of the time I cook I throw things together but that came from watching ALOT of Food Network and trying things. Alot of the time it is hard to give people recipes because there are none.

That's precisely how I cook, and frankly, I think it's a better way. I HATE HATE HATE recipes. So much about cooking is more about proper process than it is exacting ingredients; BBQ is all about process, and it's never about fast.:wink:
