Sensitive Skin Shaving Cream Question

My friend Keith recently confessed to me that he cannot shave with any type of shaving cream or he will break out. I don't think he has sevre acne but Lolo says he does. Anyway, does anyone have any advice for him so that he can stop shaving bareback? :scared:

Don't give too much attention to labels and marketing. Unless you are familiar with each ingredient in a product, and also with its effect on your skin, you can never be certain a product will work well with you. No matter how hypo-allergenic, for sensitive skin, allergen free, paraben free and alcohol free a product is, there are always things that can cause irritation and discomfort. As demonstrated by johant1968 two posts up (TOBS JS is both allergen free and paraben free, according to its packaging). I can also confirm T&H Ultimate Comfort isn't comfortable at all for me.

If he's a can guy I don't have the slightest idea, but if he's open minded I'd highly recommend Mystic Water Sensitive Skin. I really like it.

Also, he can't use anything with any oils in it? An "oil" is a chemical compound with particular properties, and unless he is allergic to carbon and hydrogen (in which case shaving is the least of his problems), I think he is misinformed. As someone mentioned, contacting a dermatologist might be helpful.

K-Y Jelly.

Some sort of gel like Real Shaving Co. Gel may work well for him, or something similar that doesn't lather. Neutrogena skin clearing shaving cream might be a good choice.

He does know how to shave, right? I mean he doesn't go ATG on the first pass or anything crazy?

I was going to suggest Shave Secret or The Village Barber shaving oil, but since he "claims" he's allergic to all oils, just about everything in the world is out.
He seriously needs to go see a dermatologist - not every product in the world can irritate him - he'd be 1 in 4 billion. Excessive Dry skin, poor bathing routines on the face, etc. can also lead to problems.

Only other thing I can think of is a delipatory such as Magic Shave, or like the other poster suggested the Neutrogena skin clearing shaving cream.

Kiss My Face unscented should be worth a try. I use it and never have had any problems. Or, he could try just soaping up his face with a mild hand soap like Ivory bath soap. You can even work up a little lather with the Ivory and it shaves really good.:thumbup:

The barber shop where I get my haircuts always seems to find all these samples for me to try. The last time I was there I mentioned that I was doing an over night out of town and they gave me a small travel size container of American Crew Precision Shave Gel. I think it's a little weird- it's a concentrated gel with almost no foaming or lathering properties and it's almost totally clear- but it also worked rather well: almost zero skin irritation and it moisturizes. I don't know how your friend would feel about it, but it may be worth a shot, especially if he can get a trial sample or a travel size container to try. I also think the bar soap idea Thomas offered has merit as well; I've shaved with Lever 2000 and it works good.
