Senior Project Ideas

So im a senior comp. sci. major at Wentworth Institute of Tech. and I need some ideas on a good senior project. Is there anything out on the web or on your current PC that you want to see differently or something that isnt there at all? Any questions let me know. And thanks

its actually not a paper at all...i have to make either a stand-alone application or a web-app.

My suggestions:

1. Make a version of cuil that doesn't suck.

2. FireFox plugin that adds a news ticker at the bottom off the page.

3. Firefox plugin to detect WiFi spoofing.

Yes, I would like to be able to take an Access 2007 database and turn it into an exe file. You may be too young to remember, but Foxbase (something like dBase) had the capability to compile to an exe file that would stand alone and run.

Barring that, how about a program to sync my outlook contacts and calendar with windows mobile that runs under Linux.

How about a simple backup helper utility. Search the entire file system to find files that have changed since the last run, and let me mark files to back up or directories to ignore (like ProgramFiles), and then a way to copy them to a second drive. Include the registry as well. You might want to look at using diff. Don't forget there's multiple users and profile types, and things like AppData. No need to do a restore. Just let me save them somewhere else just in case.

... to a brush & straight razor smilie?

web app I did for a similar thing was a myspace kinda thing, but for uni subjects.

each subject gets its own page where you can rate the teacher/content/room etc. shows off your talent to display content and arrange meaningfull searches (what subjects did students do that did subject X and Y, for students who liked teacher X did they like teacher Y etc)

Create a mod in Google that automatically applies my zip code (based on the launching IP?) to a search when I desire

So if I search for resturant it automatically launches on just the ones in my area.

Not exactly what you're looking for, but in Google Maps you can enter "restaurants near (your zip code)".

Anyway, if you're feeling ambitious I would try designing an inventory control system for a warehouse. Not that I have any vested interest in such a project or anything... :whistling:
