Seeking help IDing British one-piece open comb

I bought this razor thinking it was a #47 Popular, but now I’m not so sure. It doesn’t seem to match any of the ones on the Mr Razor page. Here are its parameters:

  • British Patent 430030.
  • No lettering on the handle, top or bottom.
  • I’m no metallurgist, but I think it is plated in plain nickel, not sybaritic rhodium.
  • Top of knurling just ends on the handle – no groove or fitting (pic)
  • TTO knob does not travel when opened/closed.
  • Handle diameter = 11.4 mm, same as #21 or #66, as shown in the photo, with the mystery razor in the middle.
  • Weight 73 gms.
  • Shave is very mild and civilized, more like the #66 than the #21.

Can someone please tell me what I’ve got? Many thanks.

Funny what happens when reading titles of posts. For instance, the title on this post ID ONE PIECE razor. My first thought was, "if it is a one piece razor how does one get the blade in the head?" I am so used to referring to these as TTO razors. Golly, I am so embaresed.:crying::mellow:

According to the wiki the 430,030 Brit patent is for the 1938 #15 Aristocrat.

Thank you for pointing me there. For the #3, there is an inconsistency with MrRrazor on the patent number. In any case, my razor still doesn't fit these classifications.

looks like #15 to me too...I am going by the wiki info and my cases....Trust me, I'm no expert, just a student!!!

EDIT: I never noticed that one of mine has the groove at the top of the knurling and one doesn't!

While I love my Brits more than a child (kidding of course...kinda:tongue_sm) this is all very confusing. Left to right: 2 #15's, #16 (yes, it's gold...don't adjust your screen!) #21, #66. One of the #15's handle/knurling matches yours while the other looks like it matches the handle/knurling of the #21...Then the #16 handle/knurling looks like the #66.....I really was trying to help!!! I think I'm more confused now.....

We need a "Bat Phone" to Mr Razor, Guido, and Thirdeye!!!!!!

I would say its a #21 instead of a #15

My #15 was my grandfathers & it has both the patent numbers stamped on it, 400,621 on the head & 430,030 on the handle. The case is different on the inside with purple lining with Aristocrat written under the Gilette branding.

Also the weights on the Wiki tie in with my #15 at 76g & the #21 is 73g

I don't think there's much in it between them but I still lean more towards the #21

Correct me if I'm wrong....but all #21's have a solid safety bar....???? I believe the #15 was the last OC....???

My bad Pike,

#21 is a solid bar so it looks like were back to the #15, I never guessed there was so much variation on single models
