Seeking a Technique to Warm Creams in Tubs

Hello all,

I am a n00b here and I've very much enjoyed the threads in this forum. I am hoping that someone can help me with a little problem I have. I did undertake due diligence and searched the forum prior to posting, but to no avail.

I am a big fan of the Nancy Boy shaving creams. They come packaged in a plastic tub, ready to use with a brush or a finger-application. Unfortunately, this makes them uniquely difficult to warm. I have not yet found a product that will warm the cream prior to use. I've of course looked at the common products for home use with canned creams and gels, such as the Conair HGL1. I've even looked into some professional barbers' products such as Campbell's Lather King.

My ideal solution would be something simple and automatic like the Conair solutions. But barring this, even a more complicated home remedy is preferable to shaving with cold shaving cream, as I have been doing.

Any advice is appreciated!

I always wondered about this but an alternative would be to just use a scuttle - once you lather - you can leave the brush on the warm scuttle and not have to worry about heating the whole cream.

I agree with this. Starting with a warm brush will also improve it.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I didn't even consider that a scuttle could work with cream. I was only familiar with the sort of scuttle that has holes as the top and is intended to be used with soap. But thanks to your suggestion, inspectoring, I plugged the term into the search engine here at B&B, as well as Google, and found what I think is my solution!

This thread discusses the moss scuttle, a new scuttle intended to be used with creams. It's even reviewed on ShaveBlog using the Nancy Boy product.

I think my solution is going to be using the moss scuttle along with an electric kettle to boil the water. I'll let you know how it works.

Thanks again!

No worries. I have the 1.5 and use it daily. I find it to be the perfect scuttle for me and I use both creams and soaps.

Even if you don't choose to go with a scuttle, you can easily warm a lather bowl with hot water while you do your prep. Toss the hot water into the basin, add your cream before working up a nice hot lather with your brush. The lather bowl can be left standing in hot water at the bottom of the basin while you shave, keeping it warm.

This works great... my only comment: I at times struggle with maintaining a quality lather if the water in my basin gets TOO hot.

Thanks again to everyone for all of your suggestions and comments.

I have ordered the Original Shaving Scuttle from Dirty Bird Pottery.

Until then I will try the suggestions about keeping the bowl in my sink. I'll let you know how the scuttle works out once I receive it!
