What's new

See ya Micromatic - Hello Clogpruf

Just had my first experience with my newly acquired Gem ClogPruf. Great 3 pass BBS everywhere, even ATG on my neck.

The OC Micromatic was a bit harsh, my G-Bar was OK, 1912 Gem & Jr. are ok, but the ClogPuf proves, for me, to me a great combo.

Seems to be one of those underrated shavers IMHO.

What is it about the Clogpruf that you like so much? Is it more or less aggressive? Or maybe some other factor?

I just got a G bar, and a Micromatic open comb, and am curious if its worth picking up any others.

My favorite of the Micromatic line. Just the right blend of aggressiveness and smoothness courtesy of the "semi-open" comb/safety bar.

I liked the G-Bar, but the Clogpruf seems to be a bit more aggressive, open bar, less aggressive than the OC Micromatic.

Hoosier Trooper said it well...

Give the OC Micromatic a whirl - there are many loyal followers. As with any, YMMV...

Thanks, I'll have to look Open Bar as my G bar feels plenty aggressive to me.

What blades do you use in your Clogpruf?

The first old school razor I ever received was a Micromatic Clogpruf. Unfortunately the only blades I found around here belong in a boxcutter! Frustration with that lead me here and put me on the DE path.

I love the old school Gillette DEs I've acquired in the last few weeks but would love to be able to shave with the razor that started it all for me. :)

Thanks!

I have used the Wal-Green blades as well as the Ted Pellas. Pellas are betters, but the others work well.

Thanks, guys. I went to the three Walgreens near me and found the Gem blades at the last store. $8 for 10. Cheaper than cartridge but way more than DE.

Any quick tips for someone transitioning from DE to SE with a Clogpruf? I'm thinking blade angle is going to be quite different.

"Cheaper than cartridge but way more than DE."

You should get considerably more passes from the "SS coated" SE blades than you do from any of your DE blades.

You also get more shaves with an SE since the blades are much stiffer. Probably equal in the end.

As many have mentioned in past posts about SE shaving, start with a very shallow angle, almost flat against the skin. Increase the angle slightly and listen - you'll hear and feel the shave. Zero to little pressure is recommended.

Yeah, they're $4.99 for 10 at the Walgreens stores around here.

That reminds me, the local CVS sells their house branded SE blades right next to their DE blades at $3.99 for a ten pack in the same ASR branded plastic box dispenser as Gems. Interestingly, the package doesn't say if they're stainless or not. I haven't tried them yet, as I still have a healthy supply of Gems on hand.

That's because they aren't stainless.

I love my clog proof it is definitely an awesome razor and one of my favorites at my home. Can't beat the GEMs, any of them! :thumbup1:
