What's new

Second handle of those to come.

On an earlier thread, I showed what Oscar11 (Steve) had sent me.

Here is the first brush from that set.

Now here is the second handle.

Since it has such an interesting pattern, I decided to show both sides.

Acrylic with a 26 mm TGN Super Badger with the loft set at 50 mm.

After a 24 to 36 hour cure time, the break in will begin.

It looks like there are a lot of deep colors in it. Certainly, my eyes could be mistaken... Is it a deep swirled pattern? Looks gorgeous.

Nice! Very similar to the other one in style. How does the Super Badger feel???

Your eyes do not deceive you. The brown base color is accented by deep iridescent green specks and swirls.

TGN Super Badger is Best Badger that has been treated for additional softness at the tip. When wet, it is soft like a Silvertip, but has good backbone toward the handle.

The TGN Super Badger was also used to make this brush that I have had for some time now.

Gary,
I've heard talk of badger hair being "treated" but no details on what that treatment is. How would one go about treating the hair to increase softness? Do we know or is this a secret among the manufacturers?

Both of those look very nice.

My only experience with TGN is a Finest Fan - how does the Super Badger compare in your opinion?

Since it is not take from the neck area it is a best badger with whitening and possibly a chemical hair relaxer used to make this really soft. Every SB knot I have gotten has a very different smell than Silvertip or Best badger knots so I suspect some relaxing agent much like used on human hair.

I will be using this later in the week after it is fully broken in.

After one lather up on both forearms to start the process, I decided to clean up the brush and re-lather for photos.

This thing is already a beast and is almost as tall as the H.I.S. but with a much larger bloom.

Steve, thanks again for this fantastic handle!

Just gorgeous. In my limited experience, the TGN best and super badgers seem to have a bigger bloom than their silvertips. The aesthetic you created here is striking!
