Second Choice?

I have ordered a puck of Tabac in the glass jar to be my first shaving soap but would like to have at least another soap to get a bit of variety of scent. What would you guys recommend as a nice second soap to use? I'm was thinking Trumper's but having not tried any soaps at all yet I thought I would ask the experts. Please give me an idea and thanks!

Speick. A light, fresh scent that is an excellent performer. Speick and Tabac are My top two soaps. Good bang for the buck as well.

I have heard a great deal about MWF, what is the smell like? Also with Speick, I am thinking of buying the body soap, what type of smell does that have?

I'm no expert by any means, but I like my MWF and AOS Sandalwood soaps very much. If you are a fan of rose scented soaps, the Klar kabinett soap is very economical and has an exceptional lather.

Mitchell's Wool Fat is not scented but it has a nice, satisfying, wholesome smell. It's good for your face.

If you like menthol and eucalyptus smell Poraso is great.

I love Tabac soap. Goooooooood choice! :001_smile

I can get Proraso quite cheap locally which is nice, maybe I'll pick some up to try tomorrow when I'm grabbing my new Tabac from the post office!!

Definitely try Art of Shaving. It's worth the time. And not just any of them--the sandalwood. I personally dislike the rest.

I'll check out ebay for some of AOS, that is another I have heard great things about. Geez....too many soaps, not enough money...

Good choice on the Proraso shave cream. It'll be a nice counterpoint to the Tabac. Both are excellent - build lather quite easily and perform great.

The AoS soaps seem to be a big hit around here. I find the soaps to be OK, but nothing that warrants the exorbitant price tag. See if you can get one on the B/S/T forum. IMO, DR Harris makes the best triple milled soaps and Cella or Speick makes the best soft/non triple milled soaps. To each his own though! Good luck in your search.

MWF
Cella
Proraso
Trumper (any of their line)
TOBS (Violet is awesome, imo)

MWF and Cella don't have the scent that I care for that much, but they more than makeup in performance...I also don't worry about scent when it comes to these two soaps as I end up mixing them with other cremes with better scents. I highly recommend MWF or Cella though for their performance :thumbup1:

Palmolive is an inoffensive workhorse.

Arko works great, but smells like Williams on steroids. I love it!

Cella and me get along like hot dogs and mustard. The bitter almond scent could be a game stopper for some.

If'n I were you, I'd look to Cella or a shave stick simply to have something that contrasts with Tabac.

Another good contrasting choice would be a glycerin based soap. SCS, Momma Bear, and a whole lot of others make some dandy animal fat free soaps.

Any of the Trumpers are excellent in terms of performance and scent; it all depends on fragrances you like. I would recommend Cella for its performance; it does not have much of a scent for me, a very low key bitter almond. Pre de Provence and Institut Karite are good performers too while not being strong scented. Given that Tabac has such a strong scent, you may want to go for a milder scented soap.

The Proraso will be great to have on hand and is a completely different scent.

D.R. Harris Arlington or Marlborough, whichever scent seems more to your liking.
