Single-edge razors have always been second-class citizens in my rotation. Always sorta harsher, not as close.
Then I recalled someone referring to early SE safety razors as essentially "straights on a stick." So, I changed up my lather, using a lighter, wetter, slicker mix - like what I use with a straight razor. And it made all the difference in the world.
For the first time, I got a perfectly comfortable (in fact, unbelievably so) shave to almost BBS closeness. Previously, I could only approach a DFS and only if I really pushed it.
So, maybe that 1912 and Micromatic might get more of a workout from here on out.
Later Gents,
