Scuttle question

A question for you scuttle users. I'm thinking of getting a scuttle to use to (a) soap mt brush prior to shaving, and (b) keep tha lather warm between passes. I face lather, so I don't need to use the scuttle's bowl to make lather. Given that, would I be better off getting something like the Dirty Bird brush scuttle rather than a standard scuttle?

Thanks.

I used to exclusively bowl lather, and my georgetown worked great for that. Kept the lather warm for three passes or so.

Now that I face lather quite a bit - the scuttle is pretty useless for keeping the brush warm. Its just too big for it. I dont have any experience with the dirty bird brush scuttle, but I can tell you from a normal-size-scuttle user - face lathering isnt normal-size-scuttle compatible. :001_smile

Before I got my Schwartzweisskeramik scuttle I face lathered exclusively. Now, I lather in the bowl because I like the warm lather and it's also easier to add water in the bowl than on your face (less drippy).

I have a Dirty Bird and it works great, however I seem to be doing more and more face lathering as it is just easier

i;d say for you it would be best to get the dirty bird brush scuttle combo, lather soap in the bowl, then put the brush in the scuttle as you prepare foryour shave,

if you begin to exclusively face lather, i;ll buy the bowl off you :)

I have the DB Brush Scuttle and I think it would be exactly what you want for face lathering. I lather in a bowl, but my second and third passes require me me to rebuild the lather in my face since the brush scuttle doesn't hold any lather, it is just for keeping the loaded brush warm. It works great and the brush is always hot. I used to use a large size Moss scuttle which is a very good product for building lather, but it is too large to be effective at keeping the lather warm in my experience.

I concur with ProphetNoir. Daily, I use a GeorgeTown scuttle, heated with scalding water. I load up my brush and barely work a lather in the bowl, then face lather with my now hot brush. The scuttle does a good job of keeping the brush, loaded with lather, warm for 3 passes.

I have a Moss Scuttle and am super happy with it. My Vulfix 2234 fits it perfectly and keeps the lather warm for multiple passes.

The Moss scuttle is the only one I know that's specifically designed to just keep the brush warm, not serve as a place to make lather. The space for the brush is more narrow, allowing for maximum heat retention. Given your needs, I'd go with the Moss, probably in small (unless you have a particularly large brush -- say a 28mm or larger).

Its the only one I have and I change the water when I rinse my face between passes so there is no problem with keeping the lather warm.

It works as a scuttle and it's a piece of art.....

Now pictures like that make me think that creating a nice warm lather in a scuttle might be even more fun than face lathering. Hmmm. . . .

I've been looking at the DB Brush Scuttle, with the matching lather bowl. ($32 + $12 respectively.)

I like to bowl lather, but I've always found that the majority of the lather remains in the brush, instead of on the sides of the bowl ... that's why I'm thinking that a brush scuttle might be just the right size for me.

I was going to wait for my birthday in July, but I don't think I can hold out that long. So I might place an order with DB sometime this week, and substitute a new pair of headphones (Sennheiser PX-200) for my birthday present.

EDIT: does anyone know how well the DB Brush Scuttle matches up, size-wise, to the B&B Essential brush?
