Scuttle Care

have a Dirty Bird mid-size scuttle - fixed inner lathering bowl - just wondering if others with this type of design try to clean the section that holds the hot water or not be concerned and just dump out & air dry after the shave ?

I don't own one, but the bottom part just contains water, which is fairly clean. Hence dumping the water, and letting it air dry should suffice. Seems like it could be easily disinfected on occasion with any number of mild cleaners. :biggrin1:

I just dump the water out of mine and then I leave it upside down on a washcloth while I finish my morning routine. Before I leave the bathroom I turn it right side up.

I dump & dry and figure it's clean for two reasons

1) It's dark in there, and most growies do a lot better in light

2) The piping water from my Rival Hot Shot ought to do a pretty good job of frying anything that even *thinks* about growing, however slowly, in there

like the bleach idea - do alot of biking in the warmer weather and camelback recommends bleach for their bladders - B&B, great website - great forums - Happy Holidays !!

I have a Schwarzweisskeramik in black, and you sometimes get hard water scaling in the hot water space around the bowl. You can get rid of this by leaving a 50/50 vinegar water solution in there for about an hour.

I recommend every 3 to 6 months throwing a small chip of a denture cleaning tablet in their. Mold will grow in temperatures higher than boiling water, I know because I was sick because of it. We had a great Braun KF185 coffee maker and I came down with the flu, or at least I thought, but it progressed to pneumonia.

Well after weeks of seeing the Doctor and taking antibiotics I wasn't getting much better, but one day I noticed that I felt better and after drinking a cup of coffee my throat hurt and felt fatigued. So I went to the coffee maker and couldn't find anything visually and figured must be coincendental since we clean the thing every few months with the recommended cleaner.

So the next day same thing, so I determined to stop drinking coffee from that maker, within a week I felt 1000% better, so I told the wife, she too stopped drinking coffee from it and felt better, she noticed that she didn't feel as congested.

So we changed over to using an electric kettle and a french press for our coffee and we felt better and the coffee greatly improved. So with that I took the coffee maker apart and inside in a bunch of small passages and nooks I found a greyish mold growing, so upon my next visit to the Doctor I brought it with in a plastic bag. He took and wiped some of it on some cultures dishes, he called me three days later to say it was some pretty bad stuff.

I said but shouldn't boiling water kill that stuff, he said no that there is actually bacteria and other things that can live in 500 degree plus temperatures!!!

So with that I would recommend some regular cleaning, just to be safe.
