Schick Golden 500 Flea Market Score

Yesterday, I accompanied my wife and her girlfriend down to a big antique flea market outside of Washington, DC. I really didn't expect to find anything shave-related as this was mostly a show for the serious ($$$) antique collectors. I was just the chauffeur/designated driver! I did spot a few shaving items, but they were either junk or way overpriced. There were a couple of exceptions. One dealer had a cased Schick Golden 500 Injector Razor (J3 model) in a display case. I glanced at it but didn't see a price. The dealer was busy with other customers, and the razor case was closed, so I wasn't sure what was inside. Other items in the case, however, were way outside my budget, so I didn't even bother asking about the price. I completed my rounds of the 500+ dealers at the show and thought I'd go back and take a closer look at the Schick. This time, the seller wasn't busy, so he took it out of the case and let me look it over. It was gorgeous and appeared to be barely used. I hesitantly asked him the price, assuming it would probably be way more than I wanted to spend. Much to my surprise, he said $10.00! I immediately told him yes, dug the money out of my wallet, handed it to him, and got out of there before he could change his mind!

When I got home last night, I noticed that what I thought was an old blade in the razor was actually the dummy blade used for shipping and display, so it appears that this is a true mint, unused razor. There are no blades missing from the injector cartridge and no used blade in the disposal slot. It even has the original instruction sheet.

The Schick must have changed my luck, because shortly after I found that, I noticed an old Gillette on the back of a shelf...turned out to be a Slim Adjustable in very good condition for $5.00!

One of these days, I want to try an injector. And these models with the HydroMagic feature are what I will get. That is a great score. Congrats!

Congratulations, I have two of these beauties, 1 in this case and the other in a plastic case with a black bottom and clear lid, both still have the blank blade, unuse blade cartridge and instructions plus, a short handle Hydro-Magic in the same condition.

Larry: I live near DC; which flea market was it? Doubt lightning would strike twice but I am about to start checking out antique stores, markets, etc.
