Scenting the house, questions

S

Sam

1) reed diffusers vs. candles. pros and cons? Once candles seem to get down to half used, the wicks go wierd and more is on the sides of the jar than anything. I am thinking Trapp or Root.

2) anything I should know about reed diffusers? I can get a deal on a trapp scent i like for half price but I have to buy the diffuser somewhere else. do i need to worry about how much % of oils in them or what?

3) Light rings, I have used, but they dont project as well

I know that when my wife bought cheap scented candles they stopped working when they got to about half . However, this did not happen with the more expensive candles - they seem to burn all the way to the bottom in an even way.

I have lots of tart burners left over from my ex. They work awesome on the whole house, you can use them 2-3 times then just pop it out for a fresh scent. I have some strawberry one burning now.

Take a look at Nancyboy. My wife got some sort of citrus spray in my last shaving cream order and it works nicely to counter the off smells that occasionally come up. They also have some sort of diffuser thing that they sell. Based on the quality of the things I have bought from them in the past I'm sure it is top-notch.

I actually use an atomizer filled with Florida Water, or occasionally the Ogallalla Bay Rum room freshener spray. I suppose Lilac Vegetal would work too, if you're into that sort of thing:smile:

I like the water air filter things. Homemedics makes one, so does Rainbow vacuum cleaners. They call them rainmates. They filter the air with water...or something...and if you add a little bit of fragrance it will distribute that frag throughout the country.

Always use ceramic or glass for your reed diffusers and you should blend the eo or fo with a reed diffuser blending agent.. this will help the reeds soak up the fragrance. I LOVE finding neat bottles and vases for my reeds.. there are so many things out there that will reflect your personality.

Natural reeds are hollow and they will wick the fragrance up, but I take my out of the container and flip them upside down once a week or so. Eventually they can gum up and need to be replaced, but you will probably have replaced your fragrance a few times before that happens.. if they stop throwing off scent, that could be why.

The kits are kind of a rip off actually, there is a HUGE mark up on them. Just buy the reeds, the fragrance and the mixer and use your own containers and you will save quite a bit.

Here is a good supplier http://www.wellingtonfragrance.com/Reed_Diffuser_Products_C142.cfm

Be aware that even tho you are putting scent into the air, it will not dispurse as well as using the fragrance in an oil burner... or my favorite.. simmering potpourri on the stove, I find there is a small fragranced area around each reed diffuser.
