What's new

Scariest shaving experience.

Was your house ever hit by a tornado, struck by lightning, or shaken by an earth quake while you were shaving? What did you do?

This morning I had my scariest shaving experience. Just as I started my first pass, I heard a loud pop to my right. As I turned, the 8x3 foot tempered glass shower enclosure came down on me in thousands of little pieces. Cut up my right hand, arm and shoulder. I called my wife for peroxide and bandagers. Then I went to the gest bathroom to finish shaving. I was face leathering with Valobra shaving stick. I’m mad because I spend 5 minutes building a nice lather. Once I got back to shaving, it was all dried up.

I'm shocked that you didn't just keep shaving while the glass fell on you. And I can't believe that you chose personal safety over a good lather. You are not B&B material...

(Very much kidding. Glad you didn't get seriously injured. I shave next to a glass shower enclosure that has fallen off it's runners before.)

Ever since I was a child I have always feared an earthquake (I live in Los Angeles) during a shower and/or dropping the almighty deuce. You have now instilled a new fear in me; an earthquake during my shave. Holy crap...

Brain aneurysum is my third greatest fear. It can happen any time.

(I'm not saying I've had one. It's just a line from the tv series Archer. I've been wanting to say it for ages.)

Yikes. That is scary. First of all, glad you are OK. Hopefully your wounds are not too severe. I did not read about a trip to the ER for stitches, so I am assuming the tempered glass did it's job and you got a few scary but relatively shallow cuts and dings from the small pieces. Not that this fact limits the skid mark factor involved in something so unexpected. I'm just hoping that you weren't dinged up too bad.

Second, how the hell did the door just explode and fall on you? Is it a new door? Sorry, I shave in a large shower with a 3.5 ft x 3.5 ft piece of glass to my right and a 6 x 3 ft piece behind me. It is not new, judging by the hard water spots I can't seem to get off the glass, even with CLR. Just wondering if this is something that happens to new glass or old glass or what.

Third, good job for pressing on and finishing the shave. Not sure I would have done the same, but it obviously would have depended on the injuries. I would have likely been too worried about cleaning up and figuring out the cost of replacing the glass. I've never had to replace one, but I assume it's at least a couple of hundred dollar repair. That's a fair amount of good shave goodies.

I at least hope the shave was BBS with no irritation.

I was at a hotel recently, and my mom had just finished her Lady Gillette shave when the glass shower door quite literally exploded. Luckily, no good lather was wasted, and she only got one weeper. But the backs of her legs were pretty scratched up.

Hope you are ok! A glass mirror spontaneously shattering would definitely be unnerving . . .

It most likely the hinges were tightened down too much or too little. basically, the stress bands in the tempered glass were disturbed in some way. tempered glass doesn't just blow up. the edges had to be hit by something.
