Santa María Novella crema da barba vs. Omega(with lanolin)

The moment everyone waited, today I tried to discern what is better
Today the great duel between Santa Maria Novella Crema da Barba and Omega Sapone da Barba (with lanolin)

Thanks to Mandrake I have a sample of the cream of Santa Maria Novella, today I decided to check how it behaves compared to the alternative: Omega soap with lanolin. What is the best of both? Are they the same ?.....

The test was as follows:

- Two simmilar brushes, Kimson and Shogun, a Silvertip and Super Badger
- A bowl of each product
- A pass with both: one half of the face and the other in the other (WTG), one pass with Santa Maria Novella (XTG) and the other with Omega (ATG)

Opening the product:
The scent of Santa Maria Novella is smooth, but the fresh notes of eucalyptus and mint come quickly, it is cool and pleasant parfum. Omega is a more spicy, most of eucalyptus and pine, but less natural, more synthetic.

Lathering: In the case of Omega is to load your brush in the bowl, but the cream of Sta Ma Novella requires water to dissolve, Omega is harder soap and it requires a little less work , but only a few seconds. In the bowl add water to lather both explode into a delight.

On the face: the menthol creams attached to the pre proraso has left me a little cold face is not very nice ,..... better for the summer. the smell of lather of Sta Ma Novella is more natural, and it has many notes of mint, eucalipus and natural pine, the Omega is more artificial, less fresh, , deeper, but less elegant

Shaving: the shave is just fine with that another, as the beard is shaved and the razor glides smoothly and without problems. I have not noticed that the lather dries, an effect of pre proraso that some wetshaver have told to me, because I leave the skin to assimilate, and put too little but rather extended.

After shaving: no irritation or pores, the sensation of coolness overrides any symptom of global warming in the area.

Conclusions: To me they are different but similar, the lather, when shaving, without smelling it, would say the same, but the smells of Sta Ma Novella are better, and is cream, hard cream, so you need less effort to make foam, only slightly less because Omega is a hard soap. I think the two use the same basic formula with different essential oils ,...... Sta Maria Novella asks Martelli to use a recipe with quality parfum from natural essences and Omega ...... uses a cheaper parfum.

Comments: I think this product Outsourcing is normal, as the Body Shop, Trumpers, T & F, TOBS with Creightons, about Martelli (Proraso, St Ma Novella, Omega). Creightons sure has a cream base that works well and when it comes TRUMPERS and says that the essential oil of violets and paid for add its and when is L'Oreal (The Body Shop) who comes adjusting prices then Creightons use the maca roots not the expensive flowers essential oils. The same case is Martelli, Sta Maaria Novella's recipe is more refined at sensory level, but its technical efficiency has already known and tested in products of lower ranges

I also have a tub of SMN shaving cream and a couple of old formulation pots of Omega. I've not tried them side-by-side, but I do find them very similar in performance. Thank you for taking the time to make this comparison! :thumbup1:

Not to offend anyone but the lather in the picture seems watery and thin. It could be the resolution in the photo

You can't offend me, don't whorry about that, it's only lather and soap.....The resolution is poor, I have poor light in the bathroom,....sorry for the pics. And the lather is the last lather after 3 passes with each brush and some of it is from the bowl, maybe it have dried ....but in my face I didn´t feel watery or too fluffy. It is not the type of lather that fall down from the brush if you shake it.

Great idea, Du! Comparing two different grade creams with similar scents, now that's something that should have occurred to me before!
Well done! :thumbup1:

Thanks to the op for the time and effort however I tend to agree with confilo. My lather is never that watery that it runs down the brush to the handle, even after 3 passes or more. Lather should mostly be in the top half of the brush.

Try soaking the brush, add a teaspoon to the pucks (both important), let it sit for 5 mins, squeeze the brush hard, give it 5 good shakes or so, load the soap on the brush for 30 sec to a minute then add water slowly and sparingly, few drops if you bowl lather or a gentle dip of the brush tips if you face lather, wait 15 sec or so between each addition of water, might take 8 or so additions of water, you'll end up with a lather you'll wanna eat and will never dry out.

Give it a go, your lather will be much thicker/moist and you might have different (hopefully better) opinions of the 2 soaps.

Take it easy,

The handles have lather because my hands were covered with lather, and at th time to put the brushes in place for the shoot, I have putted the lather of my hands on the handles.

My method to use soaps is exactly the same as you have described in the post, thanks a lot:thumbup:
