What's new

Sample Sunday

In course of the recent years I've accumumated a snall box full of soap samples, which I have put away for work related travelling purposes. But nowadays, "post Corona", I rarely have to travel overnight anymore. So the soap samples in the box were left without use and further attention.

The time has come for a change :). Starting today, I'll make use of these soap samples for my Sunday shaves.

Feel free to join in ... and don't forget to post a picture... we love pictures, after all... tell us whether or not you enjoyed the sample and why (not) 😜👍

It's time to put those forgotten samples on duty, isn't it?

Cheers!

Sample Sunday #1
Taylor of Old Bond Street ~ Coconut Luxery Shaving Cream

I'm not a coconut loving guy. However, I got this sample since I hadn't used one single coconut driven shaving cream/soap to date.

To my surprise, the cream wasn't as sweet as I had expected. It's nowhere the British Virgin Island infused sort of scent I had expected. Instead, its sweetness was muted... A rather British take on the coconut experience.

The overall verdict: the shave was very pleasant, both in terms of performance (TOBS creams are always a performer, imo) and scent.I managed to whip up a lovely dense and slick lather. The cream tolerated quite a large amount of water...

Would I get a full tub?
Probably not. There are other TOBS creams available I prefer over this one (Royal Forest, Grapefruit, The Saint James Collection). But I'll use up the sample...it's nice.
🥥 👍

Cheers!

Sample Sunday #2
The Goodfellas Smile ~ Tallow N.1

I had a nice Sample Sunday shave today, although I didn't care for the scent of this croap. Once I whipped up the lather I was welcomed by a rather sticky, floral scent (sweet blossom, jasmine). Not my cup of coffee. The performance, however, was flawless. It was pretty easy to whip up a creamy lather with good slickness and cushion.

Would I get a full tub?
Nope. But for the scent alone.

I had the same experience, good soap but the scent wasn't for me. SWMBO loved the scent so she used up the tub I had.

Sample Sunday #3 Stirling Soap Company ~ Haverford

This soap isn't new to me, in fact I've used it approx. 20+ times. These Stirling samples last a long time... 1 oz is a word for a sample.

The scent is reminiscent of sweet pipe tobacco, tonka been and vanilla. Definitely not a scent suitable for hot days, but today's weather reminded me of fall: overcast, a bit of rain and colder temperatures. That's the weather which is perfectly suited for this soap.

Would I get a full tub?
I have already ordered one last winter. Time to get this tub started... 🍁🍂🍃

Cheers!

Don't mind if I join. Like the idea of going through the samples one might have around.
I have ordered some samples from Maggardrazors months ago and recently from E&S Rasage, a French artisan. So about time to sample some new things.

So, let's get started!
Today E&S 'Barber':

PXL_20240908_191521552.NIGHT.jpg

It's a barbershop type of scent. Nice fragrance, a bit sweet and a bit floral too. The aftershave is a bit drier and less floral. Which I prefer, actually.
Both the soap and the AS splash are quite strong when it comes to scent strength! The splash is EdT territory almost.

Focusing on the soap, I can say I like it. Nice lather, good slickness, not too foamy. Face felt nice and clean afterwards.

Will I buy a full tub?
Not sure. It's a quality soap, for sure, but I am tempted by other scents that E&S have to offer.

Today: A&E Choco Cubano

My first try of an Ariana & Evans soap.
Have to say I was impressed! Manage to get a very creamy and slick leather. Really enjoyed this shave.

Scent wise it's closer to a dark chocolate, gourmand smell and not that much tobacco. Very pleasant.

Might buy a tub, but will check the other A&E samples I have to settle on scent. But a very good soap base!

Today's sample shave:

Barrister & Mann Spice.

Really enjoyed the scent. Classic, old school, woody spicy scent. Ended up oin my short list of things to buy next.
Paired it with a new aftershave that is also somewhat along the same line.. Woody spicy, barbershop type of scent.
