Same Razor, Different Aggressiveness

Relative newby here. Several years ago I bought a Merkur 34C. Liked the shaves I got even with iffy blades. When I chipped the edge slightly, I decided to get another exactly like it. The new one is much more aggressive than the old. Makes me wonder if I can place any confidence in the reviews of other shaving products.

Merkur seems to have a bit of a reputation these days regarding quality control. You may have luck getting a replacement from the vendor or from the factory. It's not unheard of for them to swap parts or whole units. Do some searching here in the DE section for contact info.

Reviews seems to be OK if you read for trends, but there are so many aspects to the shave experience that really you must try something to see if it has that x-factor that works for you.

I will probably keep the newer razor. I still use the old one since the chip is small and I don't notice it too much. I'm still in the process of evaluating blades. Regarding quality control, Derby blades have a problem. If one doesn't settle down by the second shave, into the disposal can it goes.

Thanks for the heads up on Merkur.
