Same blade, different razors?

I'm finally about ready to try out some of my (rapidly growing) vintage razor collection. Now I know, for a proper evaluation, I need to try each for a week or so (or at least one blade, I'm getting about 6 days out of the currently used Derbys).

But just to sample several, I'm tempted to switch up every day or two, just for a short term bit of variety. The question is, is it unwise to take the same blade from one razor and place it in another? I don't want to leave them in the razors. Can't see disposing of them after one or two shaves if I'm getting six.

What are your thoughts? Remove and store with each razor, or transplant from one to the next?

I propose a compromise. How about running two razors in parallel at a time, alternating days. When you're done with the blade in an given razor (after 3 shaves or so) discard the blade and move on to another razor for that half of the rotation.

I'd recommend using the same brand/model of blade in both razors while you do this. As it is, swapping things around on a daily basis will be a little disruptive and not conducive to establishing a good technique.

Thanks, the planned start is actually just that. Been using the Merkur 1904 with the Derbys, and I've decided to load a Derby in the New to start. Planning to alternate back to the Merkur, only thing that creates a problem is
a. Getting 6 days out of the Derbys (I could just toss them earlier, but why? And
b. I'm running out of Derbys (no great problem either, I'm ready to change).

For consistency's sake, I'll try the Red Pack Israeli next. If I like them in the Merkur, I'll pick up a hundred, and just continue using those until I'm back to semi steady with one razor.

I was really just thinking that to try all these great razors will take months at 6 days each blade! So I considered the transplant method (just to sample each, then get back to the routine of seeking out my blade favorites).

You can do whatever you feel comfortable doing, other folks here swap blades from razor to razor without problems (though each handling increases the risk of a mistake).
For me personally, I find it takes about a week to really get a feel for a razor, what the best angle is, the difference in its weight, handle length etc. A blade lasts me 7 days.
I use one razor per blade, or one week so that I'm sure how that razor shaves, and that if I don't particularly like it, it's because of the razor and not because I just wasn't used to the way it should be properly handled.
I own a hundred something odd razors, and it does take a long time to work through them in a rotation, especially when you find yourself going back to a favorite frequently as I do so often.
Hope things work out for you, and be sure to give us your impressions of your collection as you go along.

hi
for me i use a different razor each day ,same blade ,3 shaves then new blade, would not like anyone else in the house to pick up and maybe cut oneself . also with half a dozen razors on the go ,can never remember which one has the new blade in ..

Well, I didn't shave until last night. Put a fresh (corked) Derby into the New. Best shave of my life! And the New seemed much milder than the Merkur (though I was also concious to not tighten the head to a point where it flexed the blade into a more aggressive position, something I'm not sure about with the Merkur).

Going to shower and shave now, using the New again. Then back to the Merkur tomorrow. Ah, the spice of life .

After trying different razors and blades often, I found myself getting lost as to which had what blade. At times I had 3 or 4 razors loaded and often with different blades. I had mentioned some time ago about swapping blades from razor to razor, and the general feeling I got from other members was that it was O.K. to do. So now I just change the blade to another razor if I feel like doing so. I only use a blade for 4 shaves max., and now after about 1 year into wet shaving I find myself using my 1904 most often, and at times my HD with whatever blade I'm using.   :w00t: :001_rolle

hi
i have a merkur 1904,very good razor ,quick safe shave for sure, prefer the slant but have to be a lot more focused with it. the 1904 is quite forgiving.
overall could just use this for the rest of time .

Whoa Whoa Whoa.

What was that?

You're not fully tightening your razor heads down? That sounds kinda risky to me if you're saying what I think you're saying.
