Rough T&H Carlton

I just purchased a Truefitt and Hill Carlton razor, similar in style to the Edwin Jagger Chatsworth and others. With the $100 price tag and the fact that EJ, I believe, makes the heads on them I was expecting a flawless looking razor but this is the worst condition I've ever seen on a razor I've received. The chrome finish has ripples and small bubbling spots, there are small little nicks and the head has so many scratches on it it looks like someone took steel wool to it or something. It doesn't really come through in the photos but in person it is rooouuuugh.

Blue is right, send it back and buy else where, they should never have shipped it out in the first place, that says alot of there quality control before it leaves there business, shame on them.

Horrific...have you contacted the company from which you purchased it? I would ask for a refund or an exchange of one in pristine condition.

It's going back. I wish I could capture just how rough looking it is in person, on the underside of the head there's an area where there's a raised bump in the chrome. I also just got an Edwin Jagger DE89L that had a small spot on the handle where it was missing plating and had some machining marks on it. Maybe QC at EJ is on the decline.

Well, I sent the razor back to T&H but they are saying they never received it. I didn't get a tracking # when I sent it in so I can't prove that it got back to them. Looks like I'm out the $90 I paid for it.

Thats bull! I would keep on at them! :(

Do you think there may be a hold up on the return? I don't know what US postage is like.

It should have got there in 3 days but it's been two weeks.

Here's another picture. You can see the pits/dings and in the lower left an area where the chrome bubbled up. Again, looked worse in person.

Probably not much I can do at this point.

Very disappointed in the customer service I'm receiving from T&H and Todd Fisher's willingness to work with me. First they send me a torn up razor, then they have me pay to send it back to them and now ther response is basically oh well, get delivery confirmation next time. I've never had something get lost in the mail before, I think it's more likely that it got misplaced after getting back to them.

I had thought that the heads on Truefitt and Hill razors were identical to Muhle and Edwin Jagger but they appear to be different. In the picture of the Carlton you can see how sloppy the two pieces of the head fit together compared to the Muhle R41 and EJ DE89 pictured here.

Quality aside, I still must caution you all from purchasing from T&H. A month later I still do not have a refund and it doesn't look as though I ever will.

The head in your first image doesn't appear to be an EJ/Mühle made head. To me it looks like a Parker made head. Below is a picture of the head that came with my Parker 91R for reference.

The only difference seems to be that the Carlton head does not say India.

Made in Pakistan, yikes. Xillion, your parker head looks much better than what I received. I really wish I'd gone with an EJ Chatsworth instead of being ripped off by Truefitt and Hill.

These stories about the poor quality of the new razors is why I stay with vintage razors.

If you buy from a reputable vendor like Westcoast shaving you're safe. They will go out of their way to make things right if there's any problem with a razor. I obviously can't say the same about T&H.

I was at a boutique in Hong Kong that sold TF&H. A very high end boutique that opened a separate satellite store dedicated to men's shaving.

I decided to buy a TF&H Carlton. And I had to dig through 5 razors (new in boxes) before finding one that was acceptable. He some minor blemishes. Not like the other ones that either had gue running down the barrel/handle or dings and scratches on the head. Terrible.

I have dealt with Todd on several occasions & find him to be an honorable man. I spoke with him last week & the Carlton & duke have merkur heads. The chatsworth has an ej head. This is an outstanding company & they have always done the right thing by me. I would suggest you speak with Todd again on your issue.
