Rooney Heritage?

Descending after a long break at B&B...

I have three brushes, all of which are Simpsons: a Duke 2 (best), a Tulip 3 (2-band), and a Tulip 2 (also 2-band). The arrival of the Duke 2 coincided with a lot less use of the Tulip 2. I don't think I've used it in three months. It's a great brush, but between the Duke and the T3, I feel that I have my Simpsons brush needs covered.

I was thinking today about perhaps trading the T2 for a different brush. In the past, I've owned a Rooney 3/1 and a Rooney 2/1, both in silvertip. Very nice brushes, but slight lather hogs. Nice and soft, however, though perhaps not enough 'scritch.' I did see the Rooney Heritage brushes, which look great. Does anyone have any experience with the 1xl? How does it compare to the Rooney silvertip--and to the Simpson best and 2-band hair?

Finally, any other suggestions to round out my brush collection? I've used a boar, and didn't really care enough for it to own one. Thanks everyone.

I don't have a 1xl but I do have a 3xl Heritage and I like it a LOT. It has pushed my Duke 2 off to the sidelines and that says a lot as the Duke has beaten every other brush I have put against it.

Shavemac D01, maybe? Super soft tips with some scritch, might be right up your alley.

I also have a heritage 3xl and haven't touched my Duke 3 since. The Rooney feels much softer than the Duke, but still luxuriously firm. I do still like the Duke, but love the Rooney.

The Rooney 3XL is significantly larger than the Duke 2 and Duke 3.

Do you guys like the hair better, or just the sheer massive feel of the thing. I think that would be a very important and helpful discussion for the OP

For me it's both. I do love the wall of hair feeling of the 3xl, but the hair also feels much softer and more luxurious than the Duke. The Duke can feel a little scrubby to me, which I do like at times, where as the Rooney hair is still firm but seems much more pillowy.

when I first got the 3xl I thought it would be more of a "novelty" than a daily user. One trip to the soap and boy was I wrong.

The size does not seem to be as much of an issue as it is with some of my other "uber-human" sized brushes. It handles nicely, is soft as a cloud, but has enough "body" to it to make it a very useful tool.

Every brush I have ever put up against the Duke 2 has paled by comparison. the 3xl is the only one that can stand toe to toe with the Duke and not flinch. I don't think it is the size difference as the Duke has bested other large brushes. It's more the way the Rooney just "works"

I have not tried to bowl lather with the 3xl because every time I pick it up I know that it is going to be a killer face lather day so have not even tried to build a lather in a bowl yet. I even apply cream to my face and face lather with it which is something I rarely do.

Is the Semogue LE badger 2 band something you have considered? for me, it's got this strange composition of soft, skritch and scrub, that i don't recall in many other brushes i have tried.

A helpful discussion, thanks everyone. Maybe I can be more specific. What I like about the Duke 2 and Tulip 3 is that they are soft but scrubby, and have good backbone. I find my Tulip 2 2-band to have a bit too much backbone, and the brush head seems to stay a little too compact for me. I think I had this problem to a similar extent with the 3/1 and 2/1 Rooney Silvertips. I also preferred the slight scrub of the Simpsons to the pillowy-ness of the Rooney.

But I do very much like the look of the Rooney 1xl (3xl seems way, way too big, not to mention expensive). Thanks for your help everyone.

You might try the Rooney Heritage Beehives in two band. I have the small, and find it to have nice backbone and very scrubby tips. It's a pleasure to use.

The Rooney Heritage 1XL is very, very soft, but still has great backbone. Much softer than the two-band simpson, in my opinion.
