Rolls Razor?

Hi guys, please forgive me if this post is in the wrong place, and mods feel free to move it if necessary.

I was just given a Rolls Razor and I am trying to find out some more info on it, regarding the age of the razor, etc. Is there a resource on here that will help to determine this? Please let me know. I can post pics once I get a chance to do so.

Thanks.

There's a Social Group that has links to a lot of info here;

And a very good Wiki Article here;

Good Luck, they shave great when properly honed!

If you plan to try the razor, as Phil says you'll need to get that blade honed and stropped. Your hone is cracked (or looks cracked) and should be replaced otherwise you risk chipping the blade. The hone is the most fragile part of the Rolls set. If the honing is done too quickly the blade will slap hard on the hone and cause it to crack.

Humm...looks like your hone is cracked in half it won't be usable in that fashion.

The Rolls Razor can provide good quality shaves, but it is greatly dependent on the blade being properly honed. The Rolls Razor is basically a "straight razor on a stick", and one shaves with it using technique very similar to that of an actual straight razor (skin stretching being of the utmost importance).

The general thought, is that the Rolls Razor hone by itself is not sufficient to properly hone the wedge blade. There are people on the board with experience honing Rolls blades, and you would do best to consult with one of them to have your blade properly honed to shave ready state, before attempting to use it.

Thanks for the feedback, and yes the hone is cracked, wasn't sure if that was a big deal, so I will have to look into having that replaced. Thanks again for your advice.

If it is a clean break, you can carefully glue the two halves back together with cyanoacrylate glue, and then lap it flat.

I have one like that and it works like a champ.
