Roku Users

I just got a Roku 2 XS and like it so far. Of course, they try to get you to sign up for Hulu Plus, and other fee-based channels. Crackle is one free (albeit w/ commercials) channel. Are there other free streaming options anyone would recommend?

If you have an iOS device with jailbreak you can use Movie Box. Download movies/tv there and SSH them anywhere. From what I hear at least.

Remember that you always get what you paid for, most free streaming channels are either so niche as to be ridiculous or have nothing less than 20 years old on them.

We use our Roku mainly for Hulu, and Netflix and Amazon streaming video.

Unfortunately, because they are free, they don't have anything good on them really. I use mine for Netflix, Amazon Video, and Pandora. I keep dancing around the idea of getting Hulu plus.

Amazon Prime and Netflix are the real Roku deals, but if you also subscribe to HBO, there's a chance that your cable provider has also allowed you to watch HBOGo on the Roku as well.

+1 on the Amazon Prime. It's a great deal for $79 a year, including tons of movies and, of course, free shipping.

There's a whole lot of good stuff, just quite a lot not free. If you Google search for private channels for Roku, there's even more there.

These. I really liked Hulu but there wasn't a lot of content I wanted to watch.

Nice thing about Amazon is that, once you have it connected, you can rent movies from them. New releases generally show up about the same time they show up in On Demand, usually at a lower price.

I prefer my Android on a stick.

My Roku died after four months. A WD TV Live is better, but different. If you have a NAS or a vast collection look at the WD products.

For no holds barred, get an Imito MX1 and you'll be able to do anything on your TV that you could on an Android tablet. Almost anything.

Unless you have a Netflix account or similar, a Roku isn't very useful.

I signed up for a trial Amazon Prime, and so far I really like it. I also have a trial Hulu Plus; but I don't like the commercials.

I agree about Hulu plus. Too much for commercials.

Especially since the free Hulu from a computer has commercials. The "plus" doesn't make sense.

Try Crackle. It has commercials too but is free.

We love our Roku we have four free channels we watch the most 1. Videobuzz a private channel that gets you access to youtube 2. Pandora 3. TED 4. All Fitness TV 5. Smithsonian Channel
The only thing I feel its missing is regular Hulu and I wish it had a channel in portuguese

We have 2 ROKU boxes, one XS and one XD, in different areas of the house. We have subscriptions to Amazon, Netflix, and Hulu, along with a half dozen other free channels that get use pretty regularly. Once I can convince my kids that enough of their favorites (ie Disney Channel) are on Roku channels, I will kick Uverse to the curb and install an HDTV antenna in the attic of my garage.

Lots of good content/channels on Roku. NBC/CNBC/FOX/WallStJournal/AlJazeera for news and financial matters. If you can bear to watch subtitles sign up for K-Drama and watch "The Golden Path" TV series from Singapore. Or the "Coffee Prince" from Korea.
