Robbed on ebay

I won a Dbl Duck razor on ebay from dmzauctions it was advertised as in useable condition. When I received the razor the blade was seriously deteriorated. I sent the razor off to see if it could be restored I had my doubts but the restorer said it was a complete mess. I wrote dmzauctions and got a nasty reply saying that I and the restorer didn't know what we were talking about. Do I have any recourse?

Sorry to hear about that. Another reason I won't buy razors from them unless it's a member.

Do you have a copy of the listing?

+1 on the copy of the listing...

I had a few of those that were "useless"... I think it's part of the risk of buying on ebay.

I would put it back on the seller if he's saying that you don't know what you are talking about by asking where he would send the blade. I don't have any doubts in the first assessment but just to prove the point to that person, the recommended restorer will probably have the same opinion.

Always pay via Paypal. They cover you to some degree for fraud and incidences just as you stated where the seller misrepresented the item. They open a dispute and get both sides of the story and they tend to lean (IMO) in the buyers side. Don't ever pay by cash, check or money order because then you have no leg to stand on. If a seller doesnt take Paypal, walk....

For instance you could simply document to paypal (from your appraiser or restorer) that it's beyond use and wham, Paypal would honor your claim and refund you.

YES!!! I agree,99.9% of the guys on this forum love the world of wet shaving, and are far far less inclined to rip someone off,as a general rule, unless you buy new ,this is the best place for used equipment..

I have been trying to snag a really cheap razor to practice honing on but they always seem to get a little too expensive, at least for a razor i'm going to pretty much ruin. Sorry to hear about your bad experience i'll be sure to watch out for dmzauctions.

If the razor isn't in the condition he advertised and the seller won't work with you, file a complaint with Ebay. After the nasty response, I'd have very little empathy for the guy and would pursue every available option

ebay is a joke, they protect the seller because they also are then protecting their commissions for the sale. Paying via Paypal is the answer. (and yes, ebay owns Paypal but still must follow strict rules)

That's right.

If you paid with Paypal, then lodge a dispute. If the seller has such a poor attitude, then it's well worth following through so they don't get your money.

I'll differ from the masses here and say, no, you don't have a recourse. When the razor was sent off to a third party you basically lost control of the transaction. The first step should have been to contact the seller as soon as you opened the box. Since you shipped the razor somewhere else it is unreasonable to expect the seller to take it back.

This is just my opinion, and no doubt many will disagree.

I do agree with you, kind of. If you sent it to a recognized professional in restoring razors then I think you have a chance of getting your money back. If you had sent it to a friend of a friend that may or may not know what he or she is doing with razors then I would say you don't have a chance. I would get some thing in writing from the restorer and see what you can accomplish. They worst they can tell you is no. Good luck.

+3 on the no recourse. Unfortunately we've all bought some fleebay razors that arrived as junkers.... Descriptions can be misleading and pictures can be altered, it's just one of those things. Some vendors just aren't experienced enough to distinguish a tiny nick from a hairline fracture in a blade (my most recent purchase) or surface rust from major pitting. From my experience that is why i NEVER buy razors online over $20.

I have never had a problem with e-bay finding a solution to a bad transaction.

There is one key step to this though. You MUST Initiate this on your end by informing ebay of the problem. If you fail to follow ebays procedures, then you answered your own question and there in nothing you can do.

You can leave a bad review and contact ebay.

Paypal will only reimburse you if the razor is "substantially different than described and pictured in the auction". The onus is on you to prove that it is through pictures, written evaluation from an expert, etc.
Ebay asks that you try to negotiate a dispute settlement with the seller yourself, e.g. return for refund, partial refund, etc. Other than that, negative feedback is your only recourse if the seller is not co-operative.

OK first of all ebay keeps the sellers page available for I think it is 6 weeks so if you can get some good photos of the razor you got from the seller and you still have the confirmation email from the seller (this will have the ebay code number for the site on it) take all this along with the restorers appraisal of the razor and file a complaint with ebay, they will look at what the seller was offering and how it was represented and then they will look at what you actually got and if the seller misrepresented the razor even a little you will get your money back  and the seller will have ebay in their face.

As was also stated by others if you used paypal to pay for the transaction then you can file a complaint through them. just be sure you have all the things I mentioned so you have all the bases covered on your end..
