I struggle to find quality T shirts (a problem I'm sure others share).
My wife just returned from a trip to the Philippines where she bought some Hanes T shirts.
These are nearly twice as thick as the T shirts sold in the U.S., and...

The T shirts sold here in the U.S. are made in the Dominican Republic, while the shirts she bought in the Philippines are made in North Carolina.

Ok - what gives?

I like the Costco Kirkland undershirts. The neck still fits tightly after many, many washes.

All I can figure is that somehow, manufacturers have decided that Americans in general will choose price over quality.
The Hanes made in the US and sold in the Philippines are twice as expensive as those made elsewhere, and people buy them up in droves because they are made in the U.S.

In the late 90s Structure clothing store sold awsome Ts. They fit great and didnt shrink plus they had a sort of a ribbed design. I miss you Structure. :crying:

Try Ribbed Tees; they have the same ribbed material typically found on the "A-type" shirts (a/k/a, the beater style). They arent thick billowy tees that lose half their mass to the dryer's lint trap while they perform the seemingly impossible task of shrinking AND losing their shape.

The Ribbed Tees fit closer, have longer bodies to stay tucked and the ribbed material makes you feel cooler by having air channels. They arent perfect - the sleeve could be a half inch longer in my opinion - but they are made in the USA and are the best option that I have found yet.

Are you looking for t-shirts to be worn under collared shirts? If so, Brooks Brothers have served me well for a few years.

For a t-shirt that's going to be your top layer, check out Orvis.

As for your riddle, strange things are afoot at the Circle K.

With the exception of when I mow the lawn, my t-shirts are all hidden underneath my regular shirt. My interest in their appearance, therefore, is very slight. I will go with cheap!

Mine as well, but I still like the small visible part at the opening of the collar to be neat and even, and I hate baggy, short t shirts that won't stay tucked in.
I use a variety of shirts from different manufacturers, but it just gets tedious having to search out the few quality makers in general commercial outlets when it is obvious that US manufacturers are making quality products, but not selling them here in the US.

When you say "t-shirt" are you referring to undershirts? It's sad, but I largely consider these undergarments to be basically disposable after a couple months of service. They just tend to discolor and give out. Bearing that in mind, I guess I prefer Hanes, but they all seem similarly crummy. It's not an item I'm willing to get spendy on.

And that is a shame, and not understandable at all. Only thing I can think of is that perhaps U.S. manufacturers think everyone in the U.S. shops with a Walmart mentality.

Sad part is, people want cheap.

I'd pay extra for USA, but I know I'm in the minority.

I used to dread the rolled neck from crew necks. No matter what brand I tried it always happened. I ended up switching to V necks. Maybe its time to give them another go if i can find a quality crew neck that doesnt get all rolled up and unsightly.

Just curious thought, but I have a 18' neck, do you think that is whats causing the excessive rolling of the crew necks?

I'm in the same boat. 17.5" neck, hated crew necks, switched to v-neck. They seem to be better, but honestly I'm on the lookout for quality v neck shirts at this point. My current cheap selections have a few issues all their own.

The best undershirts i have are from primark in the uk. Cheap shirts pretty much cost 2 bucks a piece. Ive had them for years and never had any bacon neck issues. Every time i go overseas i pick up a couple to replace the older ones.

Walmart = cheap = loss of quality jobs in NA!!!

Just my rant, I am against the WAL. I will pay a premium and go out of my way to buy local, or if I have to buy imported I will look for "ehtically" produced merchandise.
