Restoration Advice Sought re: TGN Knot

I am working on my first restoration, an EverReady C40 handle found in a family attic. After reading posts here, I decided to get the TGN Finest 20mm Fan-Shaped knot shown below, which is on its way.

My request is for advice on how deeply I should seat the knot. If the loft is as stated on the website (60mm), and I place it in the prepared handle as is (8mm depth), I will wind up with an effective loft of 52mm. Any comments about more or less loft with this brush would be appreciated.

I am looking for a face-latherer-with-soap use, something that will be different from the Rooney Super 2/1 and Savile Row 3824 that I use most often now.

Thanks,

JR

I have one just like your's set a bit less than 45mm and it works great for face lathering. I would personally find this knot at 52mm too lofty.

If you drilled out the original pocket, what did you use to fill the void to the desired new base for the knot to seat upon? Did you epoxy in a dowel of the desired length, with or without filling the entire handle with epoxy?

I have two hands filled with 10 left thumbs. Rudy Vey is my man for all my customs and restores. When I was planning to do my own, I was just going to fill the handle with epoxy up to the desired level. That would also increase the weight and durability of the handle.

Good luck!

I have the 20mm Finest fan set at 45mm and wish I had set it at 42mm.

52mm would be way high for me (face lather and mostly soaps).

Drill it out (probably hollow) then fill the base with epoxy chopped cork to form a new base that will hold the knot at somewhere around 45mm or less.
