repair a merkur slant?

hello, I have a merkur slant from the 50's or 60's. It has a hair line crack on the top of handle, like a gillette old style. the only problem if you crank on the knob to tighten the hair line opens a bit more. Any one know a good solution or repair shop, who can repair? thanks very much for advice.

Well, Merkur will probably tell you this is normal use, and their razors are meant to crack. As for repairing, I would suggest wrapping the affected section in thin wire. This will provide enough force to keep it from pulling apart.

Your razor might be a candidate for a custom conversion.
Here's a picture of a Hoffritz that had a cracked handle that I redid.

If you're unfamiliar with the forum you may not know that cooncatbob makes deliciously beautiful custom handles--that's what he's proposing.
