Rehydrating TOBS cream

So, I just performed a little experience last night and thought I'd share. About 4 months ago, I ordered 6 TOBS cream samples from Garry's Sample Shop--he sends them out in those little 1/4oz plastic containers. Well, I got a few full size tubs based off the ones I liked, and hadn't gone back to them in months; turns out those little containers are not very airtight--and most of them had dried out. Last night, I tried to use one, but it was pretty hard--the same consistency of bar soap, really. So, with the remaining 4 little samples, I put about .75ml of water into each of them, and left them overnight. Well, I just checked them this evening, and lo and behold, they're perfectly re-hydrated. So, it probably isn't the end of a soap if you don't get to it before it dries out--although the scent may change a bit, it looks like they can be rehydrated.

Am I missing something? Any downside to this idea?

You're missing nothing at all. :thumbup1:
Some folks have done the opposite and squirted a tube cream into a tub to transform it into a soap (but it does take a while to dry out). No problem with performance either. In fact, you should most likely have been easily able to lather from your "new" soaps (dehydrated creams) were you so inclined.

Awesome. That alleviates my concern about buying creams faster than I can use them. Which, of course, exacerbates my desire to buy more of them...so, thank/damn you? :)

I did the opposite of this a while ago and it was great. I had a tub of TOBS Avocado that started to dry out and I wanted to see how it would go, so I left the top of it off for about a month and gave it a go. I face lather, so I just swirled the brush on the (now) soap and it was amazing. I soon did it with my TOBS rose and Mr. Taylor and never looked back.

It sounds like it performed as well or would you say different if you can remember. How was the scent effected?

It performed just as well as when it was new and completely hydrated. The scent is a bit muted when you first start using it, but it's just on the top layer. It comes back when you start to make lather.
