What's new

Red tip needs some TLC

Hey Fellas,

I've got my beloved Red tip that needs some TLC big time. I've used it now in rotation for about 3 months and it seems the plating is wearing off. The problem areas are the underside of the head and inside on the razor floor plate (my nomenclature is probably a little off as im new to this). It looks a little like case hardened steel now and id like to get it re-plated, also one of the doors is not opening/closing smoothly with the other one. Anyone know of a good repair man and or re-plating service. I've attached some pics so you can see what it is im talking about. Thanks!

Sorry if I'm hijacking this post, but along the same lines...I have a red tip that has decent plating still, but the red tip is losing it's paint. Anyone know what would be the correct paint product/color for repainting the red tip?

You could go to a hobby store and maybe find model enamel that's close enough to the original red color.

Humbrol #73 (Wine) Enamel is close to the original English Red Tip colour, it is a matt paint though. I've repainted an English Superspeed (Pic in my gallery) and currently painting an English Rocket this colour, i'll probably put a coat of clear gloss over the top of both at some point.

A lot of red tips i've seen pictures of are totally different reds though (camera maybe?)
