Red Staining from case on Aristocrat

Does anyone know a way of removing the red staining on Aristocrats from the red lining in the case? Or if it is even possible?

This is most commonly found at the bottom tip as well as along the knurling on the bottom half of the razor. Any tips/tricks would be appreciated.

[EDIT - Adding pictures]

The razor is in pretty good shape overall. The head looks great!

You can see a tint of red in a bit of the knurling on the barrel.

Here is a nice closeup of a rather noticeable red stain on the tip.

I gave them razor a thorough cleaning with hot water and a brush. Then I went at it a little with some scrubbing bubbles and the brush. The razor overall looked great but I can't rid myself of the red! I thought to take a bit of polish to it but I am afraid a small amount of plating seemed to come with the test area so I did not proceed.

These razors are lightly plated, and in this instance it seems like some it of has worn off and the brass is starting to show.... Thank you for serving in Air force. By the way how many languages do you speak?

STOP!!!!!!

The gold-plated Gillettes were lacquered to protect the thin gold plating.

As it ages the lacquer often develops an orange or red tint. It is not from the case material.

If you polish it off you will expose the gold plating and the lacquer will be uneven and potentially patchy on the razor.

Look carefully at the whole razor and either leave intact or take ALL the lacquer off - anything in between looks horrible.

I had a NEW and polished off all the lacquer, then the gold got blemished so i just took the gold off and left it in brass. I just used it like that.

This. Just adding the proper emphasis.

Officially they say I am "fluent" in one language (Pashtu). Haha, I disagree. I do however dabble in quite a few others but not very well. Urdo, Arabic, Farsi, and Dari. I've also sat down and tried to teach myself the Japanese Alphabet when I get time. Currently working on Hiragana. Once I complete that I will try for Katana and then start the long arduous trek of Kanji.

Ok, it looks like I deal with the red then or contemplate replating it. Thanks for the info.

Not really, since that is silk lining, it is just a lacquer stain issue as Mark pointed out.

The red matched so closely. I feel like an idiot at this point for thinking that was the case but ohh well. Haha

When I was in the AF, before deployments they used to gather us all in a hangar for a showdown inspection for us to show that we had all the gear we were required to have to deploy. It was "hold up your toothbrush", "Hold up your spare boots", etc. you know the drill. When it comes to "Hold up your razor" that would be an impressive sight. But, please don't risk it.

We've got guys over in Afghanistan right now shaving with DEs. They are also having product shipped out there.

We don't deploy as a unit in my career field. You go out one or two at a time to different units. Most of it on a volunteer basis and the sign up lists are 10 miles long.

I've noticed this discoloration in the laquer in the nooks and crannies of my Aristos. Never bothered me.

aha
That should keep you busy for a long time. I am part Spanish and Italian and grew up in Italian section of South Philly. I would hear all the pretty Italian girls speak some Italian and it made me want to learn Italian. ( for all the wrong reasons:wink2::001_tt1:) I know a little Spanish because of my grand mother and i took it in my last year in college.

One of my goals in life was to be fluent in another language so that is a box checked now.

I do have a general interest in languages as well. I'd like to get into the romance languages. Italian would be cool. You are right. Lots of pretty ladies. Don't tell SWMBO though.

Yeah, I like cleaning and polishing my gets. Kind of bummed I can't do anything about it but it is decades old and I guess it adds a bit of character to it.
