Red Pack Personnas

had to start the first proper thread to praise the versatility of the Red Pack Personna blade...these blades for me, will work in any razor and yield excellent shaves...they are very affordable and very effective...i'm sure more will agree...yes??

For me they are a reliable, consistent blade, moreso than Derbys, for example. The downside is that I find they are not the sharpest blade out there, and they barely last me two shaves.

Get your hands on some vintage Personna 74's if you want to see what a good blade from ASR shaves like.

My favorite blades in every razor I've tried. I always get smooth, comfortable shaves using them. I didn't try them for a while because the I assumed they were inexpensive for a reason.

To me they are the best balance between sharpness and smoothness. I get 4 shaves out of them in my HD easily.

Fantastic bargain if you ask me.

I most definitely love Astra SP blades, but I bought a bunch of Reds to try. Right now I only have one shave under my belt with them. The shave came out great and no irritation, but it felt like I had to work a little harder than with the Astras. Maybe Astra SPs are a little sharper.

All in all, though, I have to say it was a nice shave. I'm going to give another run with one tonight in my new used 195 (AKA- large but by no means obese boy).

My go to blade for a while now has been the Israeli Super + Platinum (the "Israeli Personna"). I realized, however, that I had not tried a Red-pack Personna since I started with a DE, so I ordered 100 from our own darkangel2005's eBay store. I figured that if I didn't like them, I'd take them to the BST for sale or PIF.

Well, they're not leaving my house. I've had some great shaves with them :thumbup1:, every bit as good as the IPs. But this week I've had 2 shaves with my C&E Sienna shave soap (figures I'd learn how to use it out shortly after it was discontinued :mad3:) that have been as close to BBS as I think I will ever come. FWIW, my razor is a Gillette ball-handled Tech.

They don't last long for me, but I've decided that life's too short for a dull blade, so I use a new blade with each shave. The Red-packs are inexpensive enough that a new one every day is not a hardship.

I may try some other blades (the Shark looks tempting), but for now the IPs and the Red-packs have found a home. Mine.

I am going thru a sample pack and I started the first three days with Feathers on a 38c. I think my technique is not to the point where I can handle these. I got a couple of nicks on each of the three shaves and redness. I tried the red pack today and got a nice clean irritation free shave. I'll stick with these for abit but will try the feathers again after I have some more DE's shaves under my belt.

The red pack IPs are great value blades. Good performance at a low price.

+1 This is a blade I'll always have around. It's not as sharp as a Feather, IMO and isn't as smooth as a Gillette 7 O'clock Sharp Edge (yellow) but it is still a great blade.

sometimes we can take things for granted just because of their low cost or because of the male ego being driven to use the sharpest, most deadliest combo we can find(feather blade + slant).

it's when we slow down and give in(for whatever reason) that we learn something new and are impressed by something in our shave den that we have not used in a while.

this has been my experience with the Red Pack Personna. Anytime I want a smooth, irritation free BBS shave, I load one into my 38C and just go to town. Never disappointed, never fails. In fact, I don't believe I have shaved with a Derby blade in over a year because(my former reference blade) of Feathers, the yellow 7' O Clocks, and the Red packs.

I guess it's time to order a couple three hundred of each!

I have decades worth of different blades, and I am still not nearly through experimenting with them, but RPIs are my favorites. I always know what I'm getting, they don't get finicky about which razor they're in, they're smooth and plenty sharp. My face likes them. I don't know or give a crap about longevity as I usually switch blades after 4 shaves out of boredom or wanting to try the next new thing. As long as they last that long I wouldn't notice any improvement. This is from a guy who cannot get more than 1 shave out of ANY carbon blade, and sometimes not that.

I think people assume sometimes that because they are dirt cheap they aren't as good. And of course blades are so personal but IMO, for me at least, your mind tricks you into thinking something that's more expensive has to be better. That's just not true for me regarding Red Pack Israelis.

I have yet to try the "new" production that is offered on ebay, but they're in the rotation somewhere. Of course with the old tried and true stock being plentiful still, they're no reason to try them, other than RBAD of course. :blushing:

I was early in the adoption of the Red-Pack. They are excellent.

Agreed, +1

Personna '74s (available NOS only) are the best blades I've ever used; Feather sharp, butter smooth. :001_wub: They are really worth searching for.

The Reds along with the Astras are my two main blades. I have others and try them, but those are my favorites for consistent great shaves.

And the price on the Reds is outstanding.

These blades are my favourite too. They are so smooth and plenty sharp to give 3 full BBS shaves. The 4th shave is a DFS but since I like only BBS, I switch after 3 shaves.

These cost me AU$24 for 100 blades, which IMO is fantastic value. Derby's cost AU$30 and I hated them, they were so rough and wouldn't do the job right with my 2 pass shaves.

You can get them at $.10 per blade here in the states.
There is just no other blade that comes anywhere close to that quality/price ratio.

This is my go-to blade for the daily shave. Great price for a decent razor. Again, not the sharpest, longest lasting, but for day in, day out...

I tried these for the first time a few days ago. Best results I've had yet. Looking forward to more.
On a side note, my local walmart doesn't carry them anymore.
