That means the next one with case and razor is gonna go ummm :thumbdown... Being a collector does get a tad expensive...

If you see a listing by cedarfurnitureman it will always go for a lot more than it may be worth. I don't understand it.

'Worth' is a relative word when you want something and another one want it too, you are willing to pay more and win over the other guy. Cedar is a marketing master, he write such descriptions that when you are purchase a razor from him you got the impression that you purchase a life in the 50's with the wife cooking pie, the Milkman knocking at the door and this music in background:

Tom are you being GREEDY again?

Gee whiz, what are we going to do with you??????

I took a swipe too - but way off the mark!

I was watching this one, too. Thought it would be good to find a home for my red dot, and figured I might go to $50 or $60. Wow!!! Couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it climb through the roof!

To answer the question about Cedarfurnitureman: first of all, he sells quality stuff to be sure. But I think he commands the priices he gets out of showmanship and good ol' marketing techniques. Just look at his posts. The changes in fonts, the wording of the descriptions, the changes in color and spacing...if he was selling ice cream, we'd all weigh a ton. He's got the sales technique down pat, and the quality of goods to back it up...a winning combination for him...overpriced merchandise for most of us as a result.

So my next question is...what's a good quality red dot in an original case going to go for?

I was going to take a shot at it myself, I thought i could bring it home for under $200.00 but boy was i wrong, Seriously someone wanted that Case Really Bad, That has to be a Record for sure ?

Im just wondering what would my Red Dot with Case and Sealed Blade case and instructions go for ?

I have paid far less than that for a 1904 double ring set, true gillette history. Paid even less for more historical razors. I can't help but think there is a growing false consensus on what is valued. I understand it is a rare case but it is still a fatboy line component. There are dozens of fatboy's (talking the line not that exact model) on ebay EVERY SINGLE DAY. This is not that rare of a line. Show someone the very first gillette razor and blade ever made, they might raise an eye at $200-$300 + bucks but would understand it being the first. Show your fat boy plastic case only for $350.00 and you just looked like a fool. I would never call a collector a fool but it is not that important of a piece, far more emotion and competition decided this price not common sense.

Sometimes its not about the Rareness, but it's Condition and the Hunt, It could take someone Years to Hunt this case down and who is to say you would win? When you have lots of others bidding against you :eek:/ I'm one that would Rather Pay a little more then wait years to see another one in this condition and get the hunt over with, The Pain is in the Hunt, at least for me as a collector. But then again this High Priced auction did Shock me, I never imaged it would of went for that much.

I think this might just have cured me of my RAD! 8 razors of various vintages. Maybe it's time to wake up.

Think I'll stock up on some new soaps...
