Recycle Razor Blades?

Hi

I have been using a DE since Christmas, what do you do with the old blades I have approx 8 in a jar, can you recycle them?:001_huh:

I don't know of any way you could safely recycle them. You should do a search for "50 cent blade bank" and see how to make a blade bank out of a soup tin. after it is full (of like 500 blades) then you could just toss it. The steel blades and the tin will eventually oxydize into non-existence.

Recycling depends on where you live.
I live in Phoenix AZ, and according to the city of Phoenix, they do accept small pieces of scrap metal for recycling. Just to be certain i sent them an email and they responded, stating the DE blades are totally recyclable as long as they are in a closed container so the sharp edges do not protrude.
So the blade bank is a very good idea, and you have until it is filled to find out about your particular community. :thumbup1:

Good thinking, I will google the local government site to see what they suggest.

Old prescription pill bottles work for me. There is so little metal in a DE blade that you would probably waste more gas driving there than it's worth. Unless you recycle lots of stuff. :)

I use an old chicken broth can as a blade bank. It takes about 5 minutes to make, holds years worth of blades and I can just drop it into the our cities recycle bin.

Lee's Razors also sells blade banks.

some pharmacies and clinics will provide special containers for disposal of medical waste, but you can always use any piggy bank from a dollar store or use a knife to put a slit in any jar or tin, when its full (probobly take years), you just seal it, put a biohazard sticker on it and dispose properly,

the biohazard sticker isnt a pun on the hygiene of some of the members, since DE blades will usualy contain traces of hair, blood and skin, it should be treated as medical waste,

+1. If you want to recycle them, then this is the safest way to go for you and anyone handling the material in the recycling stream. Until I bought a blade bank I just put them in an empty Derby pack and tossed it in the trash when full.

Where I work they have a metal bin in the maintenance dept' where my drinking buddy works, he said bung them in a jar and he'll empty them in, mine are soaked in alcohol so are virtually sterile, he also said that it has stanley blades saw blades etc. in it and is marked so, it'll all get recycled about 2 miles down the road....

Shimples....
