Recommendations for a Travel Razor?

Looking to see what types of razors people travel with. Currently, I use a Fusion & Proraso Cream while traveling. I'd like to ditch the Fusion, so I guess a nice inexpensive (in case its lost / stolen / or the TSA grabs it) portable DE / SE that shaves well.

Any recommendations?

With the proper case to protect it, you can travel with virtually any razor safely. I travel with my 40s SS pretty much all the time and have a converted eyeglass case to keep it from banging around...works great and keeps the razor in good shape!

Feather Portable. It's so good, that I find myself reaching for it more often than my Progress at home.

Feather Portable, great shaver too, in a great case. Shoot PaulDog a PM. Less than 10 bucks IIRC.

+1 on the Feather Portable. But really, if I didn't have one I'd just take one of my other razors. The saving in space is minimal.

Straight: Dovo Shavette in its own case that holds about four blades

DE: Merkur Travel in its own (really tiny) case that also holds four blades.

1/2 bottle of Pacific Shaving Oil

Rubbing alc mixed with peroxide and witch hazel for A/S

I bring my 50's SS with me in a 3 finger cigar travel case. Actually had a long chat with a security officer about the advantages of wet shaving. Got my bag scanned, and was asked to follow a rather burly gentleman to a separate room. He pulled out the razor and asked why I would bring it on the plane. I said, "Umm...it's no threat. There aren't any blades in my bag. I already mailed some ahead to my destination." Apparently, when he saw the razor, he didn't know that you had to put blades in it, as he thought that you had to sharpen the razor itself to use it. Being the eagle scout that I was, I always arrive at the airport at least 3 hours early. So, I got to have a nice 45 minute conversation with the head of security, pointed him in the direction of B&B/WestCoastShaving/Merkur HD/and Proraso, and made it to my gate with 35 minutes to spare.

Sure beats the hell out of when I used to fly from NC to Mass in undergrad. I'd always get stopped, and they'd paw at my favorite hiking boots...every time I flew. I actually got to know several of the security guards by name (Mr. and Ms., of course).

Red Tip Superspeed in a metal case in my Kit.
I always check luggage, so blades are not an issue.

Thanks for the tips. I have had bad luck with bagage before, So I hate putting really nice stuff in there. I couldn't bear to loose my Super Speeds. The $10 Feather Portable or Merkur Travel sound like a good idea. If I get good with a straight Ill keep the Dovo Shavette in mind.

Thanks guys.

I have a great old Tech that I put in a traveling soap box. The Tech is a great travel razor because it shaves so good in tough conditions without hurting me much. Then I pump a little Kiss My Face cream into a small bottle for the lather. I carry my brush in a toilet paper roll. This is cheap and works for me.

A Merkur travel razor is nice to use on the road. It folds up into a nice little pack that fits easily into your carry-on or in a pocket. Just be sure to put your blades into a checked bag if you are flying.

Yeah, that's the only thing about the Tech and travel. Can't take blades on a plane unless you check baggage. I hate checking baggage. Guess that is when the TracII gets used.

I recently returned from a business trip and took the following with me.
  • Merkur Futur
  • Merkur 38C
  • 58 Gillette TV SS
Didn't fly though so no worries usually associated with air travel.

I have a Lord Tech for traveling. It's a nice shaver that's dirt cheap. They can be found on eBay for less than $10 shipped, brand spankity new. If it gets snatched, it doesn't bother me any cuz I can score another one very easily. I've thought about traveling with one of my Gillette Techs, but I'd be pissed if that got nicked.
