I have a question for all of the active duty and retired military B&B members. Please do not be offended as I am not trying to trivialize your commitment to service by comparing it to a cartoon. However, I am curious as to how realistic the possibility of a military team/unit similar to the one portrayed in GI JOE? I am basing it off of the cartoon since I have not seen the movie released in 2009.
Forgive my ignorance, is it possible that it already exists with all of the elite units we hear about in the news or even those that are portrayed in movies? I suspect this is something that we probably would never hear about in real life. I would imagine that funding, whether on the books or off the books would be a major issue. Also, do you think technology transfer would be more realistic? I mean some of the gadgetry would have to eventually make its way into the mainstream population, wouldn't it?
Again, I mean no disrespect to those that have served, are serving, or plan to serve in the military. My grandfather served in WWII. I asked him this exact question once. He basically didn't answer me. But then again, he basically refuses to talk about any of his battle experience. (As an aside, I had to interview him for a report in school once, and I barely got him to talk. In a nutshell, he said I have seen things I hope you never have to see. Since I have already seen them he said, there is no need for me to keep talking about them. Even then as a high schooler, I could respect that.) I digress.
This is one of those things that popped into my head; the kind of thing you don't think about when you are a kid watching the cartoon.
Any thoughts?
