I used RR XXX yesterday it worked out fine for me. I liked fragrance since it's close to ADP and if I had to lather up again I just swished my brush in the cream again since it's in the tub. I just used my brush scuttle to keep the brush and lather warm and didn't use the brush shaving scuttle which omitted a step.

To me, I would not classify this as an old school barbershop scent, but as is the mantra around here, YMMV! I almost suspect that the term 'barbershop scent' is used to describe so many different scents its hilarious, because none of them smell like the other! I think Proraso/C.O. Bigelow is a classic barbershop scent, and RR XXX smelled very cologne-ish, and VERY strong, if not overpowering to me, so much that I couldn't get the smell of it off anything it touched! Performance wise it was ok, nothing to poop your pants over though. But it regularly gets high marks around here and has a following, that's for sure! Makes me want to reconsider and revisit it and give it another shot.

Thanks for the info. I have recently started using RRs products and I'm very enthusiastic about trying more, though barbershop or cologne - these are the scents I have to avoid with my sensitivity issues so sounds like XXX is one I'll have to skip.

I also forgot to mention (and now realize why I probably got rid of the XXX...it made my skin burn! I have read about others having the same experience, but then again, it seriously almost does have a cult-liek following, so it can't be all that bad! Only way to see if it works for you is to try it!

IMO its a fresh cologne scent. Subtle but very clean and classic. One of my all time favorites for sure.

True story. The XXX has a bright, warm fragrance. It's a very subdued scent, so subdued it doesn't last at all after the shave. However, if I had to describe it I would classify it as a classic barbershoppe scent, but more in line with Mama Bear's barbershoppe than Pinaud's, although about half as strong as Mama Bear's. I find it so mild that even the Nivea SSASB would overpower it!

I couldn't use the Cacao because it disagreed with my skin. I have no problem with XXX. I find the scent fairly mild. While the tub is a little on the small side (and cheaply made), the price is so low and the lather is so high that it seems like quite a bargain.

the smell just smells like I would expect a posh soap to smell like - I know that's totally useless.

Great lather though, possibly the best I have and the great soft skin feel afterwards makes it feel like I've been kissed by little angels rather spent the last 20 mins scraping a metal blade over my skin.

Always a great shave, always feel good after it. A truly great product - possibly my favourite (I say that now but...)
