Razor similar to Cobra Classic

My father owns a Cobra Classic. He loves the razor but complains that it is too heavy and too short for his tastes. He has been on the look out for a razor that is lighter and long, but that will hold the same blades. Is there anything else out there?

Thank you.

PAL adjustable is very close to my Cobra. You may need to go through a few to get a killer one like I ended up with as some people say that they can (and do) have issues if not treated properly.

Anyway my PAL and Cobra are like big/little brothers

Thank you for the quick reply!

Will the PAL accept the same blades as the cobra?

no

the PAL uses regular injector blades, sometimes available locally, always available online. they are less expensive than the Cobra blades.

I figured that was the case. My father is rather attached to the Feather blades and hates DE razors for some reason . Are there any other options for razors that will accept the Feather Professional blades?

Only the disposable blade straights, such as the Feather Artist Club razors and Kai razors. Also the CJB which is much cheaper.
My injectors shave as well as my Cobra did, which is why I didn't mind selling it.

how about a DE loaded with feathers but only shave with one side of the blade? jk

he may want to try a SE razor (GEM or everready) which use, obviously, single edge blades but no Feather brand available.

there is a SE razor called the valet autostrop (http://shavenook.com/thread-se-razor-review-the-valet-autostrop-vc1-2-3-4?highlight=autostrop) that uses SE blades and there is a Feather available (http://www.razorbladesandmore.com/catalo...dge-blades) -- this may be an option.

i will offer to swap a great injector for your dad's cobra. jk

As others have said.

PAL is an injector razor which uses a blade similar to the Feather disposable straight razor blade but shorter

The feel of the PAL is very close to the Cobra except it is lighter and the head is narrower because the injector blade is not as wide as a disposable straight razor blade.

I think your father would enjoy the PAL if he is used to the Cobra. The feel in the hand and the shave angle are very similar.

If he wants to stick with the Feather disposable blade he is stuck with the Cobra or using one of the straight razor shavettes that take that blade.

I am going to make an _outlandish_ suggestion. Gillette Techmatic or Schick Instamatic. These razors get no respect, but they're amazing. Some call them the Edsel of razors, but I disagree.

The handle geometry is similar to the Cobra, although you need to hold the band razors at about a 60 degree angle, and the shaving surface is wide. The razors are a bit lighter than the Cobra, which is what you're looking for.

You can find them and cartridges for cheap on ebay, bit I'll do you one better.

I have a NOS Schick Instamatic, still in the blister pack, that I'll give you. All that I would ask is that you get feedback from your dad about the quality of the shave, after giving it a couple of tries. Post the feedback, positive or negative. Worst case, your dad has a semi-collectible oddball razor on his hands.

PM me your address and I'll mail it to you (or your dad).

Wow! Nice move Planbee! Very classy!:thumbup1:

It seems to me that the OP is asking whether there is another safety razor that will take the Feather "straight" blades other than the Cobra Classic? No, there isn't. A few years ago, some people were able to take an injector, insert the Feather blades, and snap them off to fit. It was called the "Featherjector" (there are some posts about on B&B, but I specifically remember the long-deceased Shaveblog being a real champion of the "movement").

If they made a Cobra Classic with a knurled bulldog handle, our joint account would be in real danger.

Thank you all very much for the information and especially to Planbee for the extremely generous offer (PM sent).

Once again the generosity of this board never ceases to amaze me!

Is PAL the name brand for the razor mentioned earlier up the post? I must have one of those. I have been after a Cobra Classic for weeks but cannot obtain one. Maybe that Pal is the razor for me?

PAL was a rival injector manufacturer. They take normal injector blades, not the Feather "straight" blades. They were made by the American Safety Razor Company, which is now known as Personna.

Searching for one now. These like the Cobra are hard to find :mad3:

Edit found one which I will have by next Monday. What is the dial on the back of the razor for adjustment?

Just won it on an auction.
