What's new

Razor ID-confirm my guess

My first antique store find--is this a NEW Standard?

The slight discoloration marks a very tiny crack--other than that it's in near perfect shape. Just needs a cleaning.

yeah, just a normal ball end NEW. Nice shavers but not the best.
Grab any (edit ball end) ones you can find without cracked handles. The handles cracking is common with the ball ends, which is why the straight common fat bar handle version or the british knurled shaft style is what most people prefer to buy.

The NEW is really the oldest style razor that is designed to work with the modern thin blades with the universal cut shape in the middle, and the last design the king gillette had much design into IIRC.
If you find a nickle coated one with good plating, grab it. Most gold plated ones are very worn already.
I've got a few NEWs, british and american, knurled shaft style, common bar style and ball end style. All the gold plated ones have some wear, all but one of the ball end ones are cracked in the handle.

Very nice! One of the earliest NEW's. Note the ball end handle which was a carry over from the Old Type stock and the lack of patent and reissue information. This may have been amongst the first low cost, economy versions of the NEW to hit the market.
