Razor Cleaning/Maintenance

I've owned a gillette Slim Adjustable for a few months now and have cleaned it twice in a solution of Citric Acid Monohydrate which was recomended by my local pharmacist. This has successfully got rid of hard water plaque and shaving soap residue etc. I'd be interested to know if any one else has heard of this method of cleaning, or if they think it could damage the razor (there are no signs of this happening).
Also, is there any other regular maintenance that should be carried out? e.g. should the mechanism be oiled? and if so how and with what kind of oil.
