Rare Gillettes with history

A long time friend of mine just gave me some interesting razors to add to my meager collection. They have been passed down in his family, and I will hold them until he wants them back. His grandfather was Frank J. Fahey who was an executive at Gillette Razor Company from 1906 into the twenties I believe. My friend Frank H. Fahey Tells me he remembers his father having 20 or so vintage Gillette razors, but only 3 were handed down to him. One of them is I believe a very fancy 24carat gold plated Deluxe Aristocrat. I found an ad showing a razor like this on Achim’s site. This one has no case, but Frank remembers seeing one when he was a youngster. His grandfather’s initials are engraved on the head. It is a pretty ritzy looking shaving tool! The next razor belonged to his grandmother Florence Fahey. It is a jade pearl tints Decolletee kit with her initials engraved on the front. It appears to never have been used. The third is a Chippendale set with no engraving. It is pretty cool to see and touch these historic razors. I even tried out the Aristocrat, and have to say its shaves as good as it looks. My friend used it for daily shaving for 20 years, but a beard covers most of his face nowadays. Anyways, I thought these may be of some interest to the gentlemen of this forum and thought I would attempt to photograph them. They should have been shined up a bit, but I didn’t want to do any harm to them, so they are photographed au natural. Sorry for the compact fluorescent lighting.
Cheers,
Russ

Mitts thrown down the gauntlet. There should be a contest for the prettiest razor.Art in shaving. Thanks for sharing.

That is incredible! I normally have an aversion to yellow gold, but I could make an exception for a razor that beautiful. Thank you for sharing the photos.

I believe, it´s a 1930 NEW Aristocrat

Achim,
The picture in your ad matches this razor. Frank remembers seeing the travel case when he was young, but doesn't know what happened to it.
Thanks for putting so much effort to provide information on your wonderful web site. It is a wealth of valuable information!

Spectacular, Russ! You're very lucky to have such a fine friend.

Achim, was this a production model?

Bill,
Yes I am lucky to have such a fine friend. I met Frank 58 years ago in the second grade! We've had some adventures!

Brian,
I also don't gravitate towards the gold colored razors. The gold colored stuff they used was thin and had to be clear coated to keep it from corroding. It is hard to find those in fine shape.
This razor is real gold plated with no clear coat. Frank used this razor for daily shaving for 20 years, and who knows how much use his father and grandfather before him used it. Amazingly today it looks unused!
