Rapira razors

The one on the bottom can be found on the bay. I have never seen the other 2.
The one in the middle looks stunning.

Here is some older discussion: http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/104090-New-Russian-Razors - apparently no one has been determined enough to obtain one and report back, though.

Here is the product text for one razor, as translated by google:

Classic machines - Rapier Classic Steel

proxy.php

Classic metallic, non-corrosive, extremely robust machine for shaving with plastic covered handles, having a simple and reliable mechanism for fixing the blade, if you use any of the classical blades produced in the world, will provide a unique clean shave and comfort of use.

The design seems vaguely similar to a Pils. The description is a bit confusing, but that may be the translation: I see "steel" at the top, but then "metallic" and "plastic covered" make me wonder.

That middle one looks nice. I have a sales staff that is in and out of Russia on about a weekly basis. They all have friends and family there that I'm sure would get one for them. I'll see if they can snag a few, and then maybe share them with other members.

The google-translator translation is accurate.
It says "steel" in one place, but I doubt it's a stainless steel, I think "metal" is more accurate. Probably a similar material to what they make Merkurs, EJ and Muhles from. The handle is plastic covered for better grip.

I am curious about the way the handle is fixed to the head (or how it opens).

If it would be threaded, it's very likely to be poorly alligned. Could it be a bayonet fitting?

I think the head is permanently fixed. You just lift the upper cover of the head and put the blade in.
It says it has "simple and reliable mechanism of blade fixation".

I would definetely be interested in one of those. They really looks nice.

But how would the cover be kept in place? Two wingnuts?

The Metal one kept intriguing me so I contacted one of the ebayers who has a lot of Russian razors.

This was the response I received:

"Yes, sometimes I get questions about this razor.
At this time it's only project. They expensive in production.
May be later they will produce them, there is a probability.
When these razors will available, I'll put them in my shop immediately."

So as is now, it's just a proto.

Bummer, it's the best looking modern era razor I have seen and I like their blades.

it says "metallic" in Russian too.
Yes this is the one I would like to try.
I speak Russian fluently. It does not just say "metallic" but rather metallic not prone to corrosion, or in other words stainless steel. The handle has inserted plastic strips for better grip or lighter weight , I guess.

It might not be that hard to get it to align properly. The threads just need to start at the same point on both the head and the handle. Once it's tightened down with a blade in it, the handle should be aligned. This would change slightly though if someone were to put a shim in as well.

The most likely answer though, is that we're already too far ahead of it. Since this is just a mock up or even just a drawing, they may not even have worked that out yet themselves.

Unlikely, these tolerances would be difficult to maintain and the slightest bit of difference in blade thickness or tightening force would make it off.

Very likely, yes. Unfortunately...

The Russian is my native language. Металлический is of course metallic. But the next phrase, which says "not prone to corrosion", doesn't mean stainless steel. In Russia stainless steel means "неражавеющая сталь" or literally "steel that doesn't rust". So this model could be made of aluminum for example. If it would be made of "stainless steel" the description would be "нержавеющая сталь".

P.S.
By the way. I bought two packs of razor blades (100 each of them) - восход and ладас - right from this factory in Moscow a couple of weeks ago. :)
