Ranking Dr. Bronner's Soaps for Shaving Purposes

I use Dr. Bronner's soaps for my body wash and have used it for my shaving soap when I used cartrigdes and now when I use a safety razor. However, there are clear differences between the different varieties of soaps when you use them for shaving; here is my ranking of the different types that I've tried. I apply by putting a couple of drops on a generic boar brush.

1. Peppermint: the cooling menthol sensation feels great while shaving, and something about the peppermint seems to help the blade just glide over your face.

2. Eucalyptus: Almost as good as the Peppermint, you can still get very good shaves out of this soap.

3. Lavendar: Not the greatest, but it can work in a pinch (which was the only reason I tried it).

4. Tea Tree: Terrible. Soap immediately dries up and shaving with any blade leaves your face raw and red.

Anyone else use Dr. Bronner's for shaving?

I've tried 2x or 3x times with the peppermint version and would never try again. I only got airy, dry lather that required constant re-application in the middle of a pass.

However, the peppermint version is the soap of choice for de-funking a new shaving brush. The soap just completely obliterates any bad odors in the brush.

Is this the liquid in the bottle stuff, or the actual bar of soap?

Either way, I wouldn't think to try them for shaving purposes.

Welcome to B&B!

I use the liquid peppermint soap; the big bottle costs 10.99 at my local Kroger, and lasts forever. I usually have about a tablespoon worth of water in my cup when I'm lathering up. Much more and it just runs off of my face, any less and it doesn't really lather up. For some reason it seems to be working for me!

I've used several varieties of the liquid soap for shave prep and they're all great for that part of the process. I wouldn't use them for any kind of shaving lather as they just don't have the right formula for cushion or glide.
