I recently purchased the GS1 handle that jgriest03 has designed.
This is the first time I purchase a handle solo (minus a head) and I had done so planning to use the handle with a Gillette Travel Tech head that I haven't been using because it is just stored in it's miniature case lonely and not getting any attention.
I received the handle yesterday and used it today, with the Travel Tech head, and here are my first impressions along with a few pics.
I don't have many handles to compare it with but from what I do have (Muhle r41, Titan, and Feather AS-D1) this one feels right at home and was bought at a great price IMO. The knurling is really fine with pointy tips which makes the handle easy to grip. I wasn't sure about the absence of knurling in the lower part of the handle but I have found I enjoy this aspect. The part I really like on this handle (or others that display this characteristic) is the flat bottom, it feels so nice to rest your pinky there when shaving and it just looks great IMO, plus you can stand the handle upright if you ever needed or wanted to. The groove between the top portion and the lower portion of the handle does add comfort especially for my XTG passes (great rest for my thumb) and for my WTG passes (great rest for my ring finger). It has a nice weight and length and is composed of stainless steel.
My shave was very nice indeed, the handle doesn't do the shaving but it really did turn my Travel Tech into a more practical razor and I am happy with the purchase.
The only negative I can think of would be that when I was first handling the handle I noticed black residue rubbing off on my hands, this was easily resolved with some soap and water, this is hardly an issue but I just wanted to mention it.
